Glass "Dam"
2 Attachment(s)
I was wondering if this part is really needed. My rear glass has been replaced due to some deep scratches that caused by vandalism. The safelite technician didn't install the "dam" and im not told what its purpose. I have the part number and illustration of where it might be installed.Attachment 131897
This picture was at the bottom part of the windshield near the trunk. It still has the foam(Dam) in between the glass and the body. Attachment 131898 |

This is above the headliner where the tech didn't install the "Dam". I want to know if it's okay without the dam. So far no leaks. No call back from the tech too. Im not gonna use safelite ever again. If ever im gonna replace the windshield again i'm gonna make sure every part is there.

I believe I'd take it back and have them insert that piece. Even though it may not leak now, it could leak on down the road. Also, it may be cushioning the glass, so it won't rattle or crack.
The manufacturer put it there for a reason. humfrz |

I agree you should make them fix it. You should get what you overpaid for.
And next time I'd find someone other than Safelite. I've replaced the windshield on my BRZ twice. The first time it was $100 cheaper than Safelite and done in 90 minutes on the same day I called, whereas Safelite's first available appointment was over a week later. The second time it was just as fast and was $140 cheaper. That's with APTech and Pilkington glass, so it's not because they're selling me garbage. In most cities there's a local glass company that will do better work faster for cheaper. You just have to read the online reviews and find them. My '71 Gladiator needs a windshield now, and it's the kind with a gasket that holds the windshield in and chrome trim that covers the gasket. There's no way I'd let Safelite touch that. |

I cannot stand Safelite. They should have done it correctly the 1st time. I had them fix a small rock chip. Not impressive. Good luck.

The horror stories I hear from NorCal about safelite is just comical. Guess that the down side of a national company. They need to cut coners to max profit. |
