Dent Removal
 

not even 40km yet and i've already got a nickel sized circular ding on the door.

When i got the car it was evening and the car was dirty ( i declined a carwash/wax) and didn't really inspect it much. I will ask the dealer to see what they say because it COULD have been there from the start and i just missed it, but i could understand if they just shrugged their shoulders and told me to fuck off.

anyway,

go to a Dent guy/girl = over 100 bucks

then you have the autoshop "ding removal kits" with the glue and suction cup

then you have the duster + tinfoil + lighter trick

what works, what doesn't, share your stories?

Don't DIY. You may mess it up more or waste money on kits that have little/no effect for a ding that size (I've tried). I must have had 15+ dings across 3 cars I've had over the years and all of them were popped out to perfection by PDR (paintless dent removal) guys.

But have faith in your dealership. They should take care of you to earn your repeat business plus they usually have easy access to PDR guys for their fleet of cars. Shouldn't be a big deal to them and seeing as you bought a car from them they ought to take care of you.

Just got back from the dealership, said they'll take care of it when their PDR guy comes in next week.

Same thing happened to my sister a week after she got a challenger. Someone dinged the door and I think they replaced the whole door.

The glue puller works effectively IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. If you don't you will crack the clear coat, and then well you understand.

I would recommend if you are willing to attemp dent removal with the glue puller use a flouresent lamp as a reflection to show the dent. This works by creating a reflected line on the surface of the panel, you keep working until the line is straight again, if that makes sense.

Good to hear the dealership is going to look after the issue but had to ask,

what is the duster,tinfoil,lighter trick???

kinda like this, except you put tinfoil over the damage area and use a lighter to heat it up (so that heat is spread gradually and not concentrated, thereby protecting the paint... or so thet say, i have no clue, LOL)

Happened to me to ~ Friend who works at a panel shop removed the inside panels and rubbed the dent out from the inside ~ did a perfect job ~ His boss wanted to charge me over 600 bucks ~ :D

The canned air/Hair dryer trick usually only works on larger dents that aren't creased...
