FT-86 II Not an ED2 Design

I noticed the MK2 didnt have the ED2 badge on it like the MK1, but just read this:

"FT-86 II concept was done by Toyota Design Center in Japan"

Not sure why it changed.

Well they sure seem to know how to fuck a good thing up

I wonder why it was moved to a different design center, I mean I think the vast majority on here loved the mk1 design and were hoping for little or no change to go to production.

Apart from safety regs etc it looked far more production ready than the mk2.

well wasnt there rumors going around when the MkI came out that there were two other designs that were going to be shown from toyotas two other major studios?? we've had europe(ED2-MkI), and now japan(TDC-MkII) so now im guessing we wait for the americans(___-MkIII) turn right?

p.s. im not counting g-sports as its own seperate design as it was only a "tuned" version of the MkI

Yeah, the MkIII will probably make us Americans jealous over the Euro MkII. I guess we will just have to wait for the NY auto show? :iono:

IIRC the three designs for FT-86 are: ED2, TDC and Calty (from Cali US).

So what you guys are saying is Calty should/will have a third FT concept ready for viewing at the NY auto show in april? that would be great but doesnt sound plausable.

Time so search for apartments/ housing in Europe or Japan..........

If u guys did not know, NYC isnt great because there is so much poverty here.

Are you sure that this was made in Japan? It kinda looks like it was put together by Five Axis.

RRnold 03-02-2011 03:47 PM

Wow, we are screwed when the Japanese mess up a French design! I thought it was supposed to be the opposite! :bellyroll:

Moving is a little much for just a car haha, but hey, I'd drive to Canada if the Scions weren't sold there.

Highly unlikely. Since this is a close-to-production concept, that means the basic design is locked down. From their words, this "gives the clearest indication yet as to the final design of Toyota's next sports car." Getting down the tooling and such for manufacturing, you need a fair amount of lead time.

First thing I'm doing is decals over the teardrops to make it resemble mkI

It's like the Japanese were told: "Make it suitable for the US market."

And they were like: "Wakarimashita!" Then went nuts 'Americanizing' it to the extreme (probably using all the custom/riced-out Scions that Toyota has in its magazine campaigns like 'Altered. Ego.' as reference.)

I actually posted quite early that it looked like an American re-design. Well I was at least right that it wasn't the same studio.

What I would like to see, is if the American studio does have a Mk III, and if Toyota is testing market reactions to pick the style they go with. (It's just odd that, as previously stated by others, that the Mk I looks like the production version to the Mk II's concept verion.)
