We have ants and I don't know about the western ones but ours are just as fast as anybody's for about 7 months of the year. We also have crawfish (although spelt and pronounced properly as crayfish).
Get the heat and humidity as well but again not all the bloody time.

But not Trump, and for that, I am eternally envious.

Well, my crickets stopped hibernating today...Sure sign that spring is returning.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crayfish

"Crayfish, also known as crawfish, crawdads, freshwater lobsters, or mudbugs, are freshwater crustaceans resembling small lobsters, to which they are related; taxonomically, they are members of the superfamilies Astacoidea and Parastacoidea."

In Mississippi, they might be crawfish, but in Louisiana they're crawdads.

These things can infest your lawn and make it look like a miniature bombing range.

There's no crayfish in Canada, please.

We got ants, but they are small, move slow, and dont really invade much.

It's kind of strange how the states (or regions) choose the words.

In North Georgia, we also called them crawdads, but you only saw a couple at a time in creeks really.

Here, they are so abundant (well, they bring them up from the coast.)

We've got "Raspberry Crazy Ants"! They kill off the fire ants, but then they move in to your house by the millions. Once there, they are nearly impossible to evict.

How to tell fire ants from RCA's:
