Seed pods in engine

Is anyone else having this issue or have any idea why this is happening? I've gone in there and vacuumed out large amounts of these propeller seed pods twice before taking a picture this time. It looks like I'm just parking on mounds of these things and having them sucked up somehow...but I don't have these in my driveway at all and it doesn't look like nesting.

Ignore the oil mess. That's what I was cleaning this time around. I hadn't tightened the sandwich plate quite enough for my oil cooler and it caused it to shoot oil out

I was also in there because I was having some crazy rattling noises and my AC compressor had a lot of movement. Turns out the engine vibrations had rattled its two front bolt loose so it was shaking around. That's all fixed now too.

Yea, I'm thinking something attempted to make a stash, or the oil is allowing the seeds to stick there.

Hmm I've considered the rodent possibility. It just seems odd cause I've never seen a rodent build a nest with only one type of item. If I saw string or other packing material of some kind, I'd be sold.

I would say the oil helps hold some in the front, but what I couldn't show with the picture is that what you see is actually overflow of the seed pods. The pods are packed into the entire area beneath the intake manifold and pile out the back as well.

My best guess would be that they got in through the cowl below the windshield. I just don't know how they all ended up crammed between the intake manifold and the engine. :iono:

Any neighbors with a grudge?

Irresponsible gardeners with leaf blowers?

That looks really odd lol.

hmmmm.......... I was thinking more along the lines of a food stash.

Are the maple trees near your home or your work or both ..... ??

I had the exact same thing! That could be a picture of mine it was so close.
They were so evenly spread out and in places that there is no way they just blew there that I blamed squirrels.
I was pretty sure I was right when I took down our Christmas decorations and they were also filled with maple keys.

Had something similar happen to my wife's Mazda 3. A family of snails somehow crawled up onto the throttle body and were presumably cooked alive. All that was left was 5 or so hollowed shells. She drives the car every day, it boggles my mind how it happened. I gave her some grief for it.

2 years later the exact same thing happened to the BRZ. Bizarre. It could be like the spiders that like Mitsubishi fuel pumps, lol.

I got the same issue, the openings in between the cowl and the fender is pretty large and lets in leaves if you park it underneath a tree that is shedding.
