FRS vs Genesis coupe
Just thought I'd share a comparison since my son has an FRS and I have a Genesis 3.8. (Video is compared with the 2.0)
I like both cars, as I had considered the BRZ before purchasing the Genesis. I can tell you I like the interior and ease of entrance/exit better in the Genesis. Exterior styling and handling I like slightly better on the FRS, but the power of the Genesis 3.8 is loads of fun! When you compare a turbo, track pack car to a non turbo base 200hp car and the 200hp car stacks up against it; something went wrong in your turbo track pack design

Yep, the FRS vs Genesis is a good example of shitty chassis vs great chassis. Even the track pack can't make up for it. |
The Genesis was at the top of my short list until I stumbled across the FRS. Contrary to what many may think it wasn't a bad platform at all and actually comes very close to the FRS in the handling department. That is the newer ones mind you I have never driven one of the older gens.
Gonna throw the age old and much disputed disclaimer into the ring though. Here the track pack 3.8 Genesis will cost you about $10K more than a FRS. You can do a lot of shit to a FRS with $10K! |
I drove a couple new Genesis in 2011, the turbo four cylinder car was awful. Tried out the six cylinder version and quickly passed. I hated the transmission and overall driving position in both, the V6 was "meh" to me in power delivery and the turbo four was pathetic.
I will say this with a disclaimer.... I don't think the FA20's powerband is anything spectacular either....but the car overall is pretty decent. |
I feel like the difference in driveway/background area in the provided photos means something profound when comparing a twin driver/owner to a genesis owner.

Now I agree if HP were the same then the FRS would definitely win as the handling is slightly better but I have driven both back to back and it's not by much. I really do love how the FRS is lower/smaller, but for me being a little older, I have to kind of roll out of it, lol. |

Edit: Comparing the FRS to a Genesis is kind of like a Miata to a Jaguar XK(Whatever the convertible is). Yeah, they're both a coupe (convertible), both have FR layouts, but not exactly in the same class at all. Second Edit: Looking at what you get for the 29k, I'd be interested in trying it out. I just hate the new body on them compared to the old one |
I got the chance to drive my friend's Genesis this past weekend and it is a decent handling car but feels a vague and uncommunicative compared to the BRZ/FRS. The extra punch from the V-6 was nice but as tcoat mentioned, the price difference can buy a lot of extra goodies.

The Genesis is about 550 pounds heavier than the FR-S....that's a LOT
