Impressive boot space!
Reading all the reviews you'd expect to get not much more than golf clubs in the car. I'm coming from a wagon and wanting something sporty, with the requirement that I can fit surfboards and sleep in the back. I thought my only non V6/8 option might be the Fabia RS wagon, but after carting my surfboard to dealers, and amusing the dealers by testing out sleeping arrangement I was very glad to find the 86 actually better than the Skoda wagon in some regards.
The Skoda is of course bigger but has a 2" lip where the rear seats fold which is buggery on the hips. The 86 folds flat save for the gentle tire hump under my legs. If you push the seats forward in the 86 you have about a 400mm chasm that for a comfy sleep only require (which I also have to do in my i30 wagon) a 5mm plywood board to bridges the gap. I'm 5'11 and can sleep comfy in the back of the 86 without my head or feet touching ends, stoked. I can also fit my 5'10 surfboard in the back lying flat, at a diagonal, without even having to move the passenger seat from its normal position. My 6'10 I'll have to put upright between the seats or push the passenger seat forward if I have company, but it's doable. When I occasionally have to take out the bigger boards there is a Yakima roofrack that seems to fit the 86. Only thing I'm not sure about is the ease of rooting in the back, though I figure my odds coming from an i30 wagon are probably improving  |
hahaha this made me laugh, some of my best memories involve my old EA Falcon wagon with bench seats, slept 3 comfortably, 5 if they were good friends, 6 if it was an orgy. Didnt look like much, but man did I get a few girls in the back of it.

Looks like enough room for what you need.

ROFL!!!

I managed to fit a car seat for the little one quite easily. Plus the pram in the boot with room for shopping or bags etc. Was bigger than I thought it would have been.

interested in this as i mountain bike and i thought the only way i could now is by getting a mate to pick me up... you got a link or details of this roof rack?? |
Went back to have a look and see its not actually an 86, the black car here http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=106174
but looks like it should work. The rack looks like the Q Towers which seems like it will fit on anything? http://www.yakima.com.au/au/shop-en/...owers-2pk.html |

Hey BD.
I'm looking to place my order at the local Toy dealer tomorrow. I'm a mad keen surfer too and am interested in any photos you have of your surfboard in the boot/cabin. Stoked to find your comments when i googled "toyota 86 surfboard" 6'6" is my biggest but sometimes i need to leave home with more than 1 board as conditions can change on the way to the beach... Cheers fellow 86/surf buddies! |
yet i cant even fit a normal size sub in mine.. had to order slim box
