Catback exhaust making contact with rear diff
 

Hi all.
So i had my brz serviced today at the dealer. I have installed a 3" Perrin catback exhasut. He noted that it was making contact with the rear diff.

I'm unsure on what to do about this. Any help is appreciated. Anyone else experienced this?

Edit: I see where it could potentially be hitting and thought that if i move the hanger to the left some more it might fix it. Would changing hangers help to reduce movement? On stock one at the moment.

You can shift the whole catback based on the hangers. Stock should be fine, just reposition them. You should also try and adjust your mid pipe by adjusting how your front pipe sits on the trans hanger bolt. Take it out, slide the whole piping, bolt it back up. Minimal Gains, but enough. A lot of exhausts run below the diff and make contact with the ground, and that
Could be inturn what pushed it against the diff. I personally have a flat spot in my invidia mid pipe due to being lowered and scraping. You can see the occasional sparks from under my car. :p

I don't have access to a lift or jacks :/
Might have to take it to a shop just to move the hangers.

I have the HKS hi power 3 inch and it its VERY close to touching the rear subframe and diff, however my hangers are in awesome shape i suppose and the exhaust doesn't really move at all. if so I will use a hammer to help persuade things.

Well now, the redneck way would be to take a piece of wire, wrap one end around the exhaust pipe and the other end around something on the frame. Twist till the pipe moves away from the differential.

You can do this as a short term fix, or get stiffer exhaust hangers. I have some stiff hangers, they work fairly well, but they're a bitch to work with if you constantly swap exhausts like some people i know (cue @Tcoat)

Another thing you can do is use hose clamps on the metal hangers from the car and the exhaust to get it to sit differently and stay put.

I'd recommend investing in a jack, jack stands and some basic socket and crescent wrenches if you have the space for them. This way, you spend 300 or less and can save money in the long term doing whatever work you're comfortable with.

Though, kind of a **** move by the dealer to not take the 30 seconds and make the adjustment for you.

I might have a to borrow a friends if they have any. I thought of changing to polyurethane hangers, maybe Perrin? Reason I say Perrin is because they're the only ones the site I bought my exhaust of have. Can look around if there's better ones out there.

I agree about the dealer but I can understand why they wouldn't touch it. If something did happen ( god knows what, it's an exhaust), then they become liable/involved.

I think in general, if it's after market, they don't touch it (in Australia at least).

The ones I have, I ordered from Nameless when I got my axle back from them. Pretty sure most of the aftermarket ones are all the same.

I'd try playing with the hangers first, that way you aren't ordering hangers that you may not need.

My greddy exhaust hanger flange is slightly bent in an awkward way so when I tried adjusting the stock hangers it didn't work. I bought some Torque Solutions hangers from eBay for slightly cheaper than (Perrin, Cusco,etc) and they have been working fine.

One thing I would reconsider is to get stiffer regular length hangers not the "extra" long ones. I scrap more often now since I'm lowered too 😐
