HomeLink FRS

Does the frs have the homelink option so i can open the garage door?

86_ZN6 06-29-2012 03:04 AM

the BRZ homelink will work with the FRS

dav0777x 06-29-2012 04:05 AM

but does the frs have it own homelink option?

none

dav0777x 06-29-2012 04:11 AM

That really sucks! So the only option is to buy the 200$ mirror with the homelink?

Alternative

This is an alternative I'm considering "Flash2Pass". I like it because it works with any vehicle (including motorcycles) and could probably be wired to just about any switch in the car (for example, in the FR-SAT, I was thinking you could tap into the "Snow" button for it).

Just a thought. I do know someone that has it and loves it but hasn't used it for any "alternate" hook ups.

Is the wiring under the headliner in the FRS for the BRZ mirror?

waylonrobert 06-29-2012 05:59 PM

Yeah, the Scion basically comes vanilla. Rumors are pointing to August or so availability of fog lights, and other rumors I've heard suggest other options are coming down the pipe, but no one has a concrete timetable for any of this (most seem to think it will be in early 2013).

I want to know the same thing, I ran out of time when I was doing my radar install. Not really looking to take it apart again right away.

Haven't been under there myself looking, but I've heard other people say yes, it is.

Yes, it is. Someone posted using a mirror adapter from his previous Subaru, and it connected with no problems. :happyanim:

MTeator 06-30-2012 03:08 PM

Good news. There was a thread where someone put in a generic homelink and I just didn't want to do that much work to wire it up.

civicdrivr 06-30-2012 03:39 PM

Many of the Subaru mirrors will match up, but you need a camlock adapter for the windshield mount. My HomeLink mirror will be here at the end of the week (hopefully), so Ill post a DIY if one isn't there already.

Did this all go smoothly?

Khyron686 07-05-2012 07:16 PM

I have an frs and haven't been able to find the wire socket. I may have to try dropping the headliner...
:sigh:

:sigh:

Pop the overhead light out and follow that harness up into the headliner. You should feel the socket. You can really only fit one hand in there. And dont do it after the car has been sitting in the sun all day, that roof gets hot :bonk:

Its the standard Subaru 3 pin plug. The Homelink Im running is from an '09 Legacy IIRC. You can get the cam lock adapter on eBay for $20 shipped too.

Here are the programming instructions:

http://www.subarumanuals.org/subaru-1322.html

I had to reprogram the compass too, but it was zoned correctly.

Khyron686 07-06-2012 12:10 AM

Ah got it (I did learn about the hot roof in the sun though). I was trying to find a plug that would come all the way out, but it was stuck/pinned just inside. I was able to see it enough to plug the cable in, and now it's all good. Such a nice mod especially the autodimming since I didn't tint the rear window.

civicdrivr 07-06-2012 02:58 AM

Yea, the Homelink/autodimming mirror is great. I used to have my garage door opener in the cell-phone-cup-holder-thing and always used to hit it with my elbow :bellyroll:

getbent 07-13-2012 08:34 AM

Does the mirror (H501SCA100) come with everything necessary for plug-and-play? Does it need any camlock adapters or extra wiring harness?

tripjammer 07-13-2012 11:53 AM

Looks like the best way would be to go with the $79 flash2Pass and then get the frameless rear view mirror $99 from JDM. Then you have the best of both worlds...just saying...

The frameless mirror is sweet, but auto dimming and control over three garage doors is sweeter IMO.

Synack 07-13-2012 03:49 PM

Now if only Homelink could push my up 3 flights of stairs and unlock my apartment door for me.

Khyron686 07-13-2012 04:08 PM

I love the mirror - the autodimming is worth the price of admission IMO with all these jacked up trucks and terrible hid kits.

Homelink and the compass work great as well.

The plug IS there on the pass side but it is hard to see/feel.

mikochu 07-13-2012 04:43 PM

Do the high-beam mod! Either wire up a relay to your garage door opener to close the circuit when you flash your high beams or just close the circuit on your 12v garage door opener and wire that to your high beams. Flash your high beams at your garage door and voila! I had that setup on my xA years back and it never failed.

I forgot about the autodimming.....yeah homelink is cool, I have it in my Z, but I only need one garage door to open....

OrbitalEllipses 07-13-2012 07:59 PM

I had an autodimming mirror in my WRX...now I can't live without one; I hate messing with the little tab for glare at night.

Camotec 07-14-2012 06:38 AM

Can anyone confirm this will work on the Australian delivered Toyota 86? I wont have my 86 for another few months, but i would like to buy all of my mods now.

Same car so it should, but just not sure. And i should not need any adaptors should I? Being that i am going to buy the Subaru BRZ mirror from the states (genuine spares).

I just looked at the interior of the gt and gts (online images) and they are attached directly to the windshield. So how does the wiring work??

These are both listed in the recent OEM BRZ accessories catalog I got from SubaruOnlineParts.com.

H501SCA100 is the mirror
H501SSA040 is the adapter.

There is a plastic cover that comes with the kit. The wiring runs out of the mirror, over the stem, under the cover, and into the headliner.

Camotec 07-16-2012 04:59 AM

Perfect, Exactly what I needed to know. Cheers

Does the adapter come with the long plastic thing that hides the wire? :thanks:

Don't know but if you check with them they can probably tell you. I didn't order one.

Bullnettles 08-01-2013 05:47 PM

Can anyone comment on install time on this? Thank you.
