Nitrous, why the fright?
Hear me out, looking at real basic numbers lets say a stock car makes 170hp. Even a 100 shot would put down a theoretical 270hp. A 100 shot has the stigma of being instant destruction. However 270hp on a turbo kit would be considered small potatoes, I make 335whp (turbo) myself and think nothing of it.
Of course this is assuming the correct tuning and fueling mods are done, just like a turbo. No one tries to run a turbo with no tune, nitrous should be the same. Why does nitrous get such a bad rep? Has Hollywood really influenced this generation of car guys that bad? http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...pslfrrarig.jpg |
I don't think its that nitrous has a particularly bad rep, it's just not as widely supported, and in result less widely used. Most of the guys here (not to offend anyone) don't have the knowledge and experience to use nitrous if they wanted to, they rely heavily on this chassis' aftermarket support to develop what the end user sees as "Plug n Play" and "bolt on" solutions. There's nothing wrong with this, we all learn somewhere, but without having extensive aftermarket support like we do with turbo & supercharger kits, it's just hard for the inexperienced to get their foot in the door.
I'm with you though, nitrous is great in ways more than one. As a 100 shot FI substitute, or even a complement of FI (turbo setup). Myself for instance, I have my nitrous setup to come on automatically at 70% throttle and off at just under peak boost. I have a fairly large turbo so it helps with spool times. Again, many uses. As time progresses, I would expect to see it become much more widely used on the ZN6 platform. |

If I wasn't over the financial hill (or cliff) with my turbo stuff I would really consider a full nitrous build. I love the character of these cars when NA but want more power when the time calls for it. |
DSports 50 Shot, nice and smooth, 234whp 216wtq. Base line was 176/148 so a gain of 58hp and 68tq

its the stereotype behind the idiots who dont use it properly. That, and turbo is power all the time, no need for a refill. The only reason i dont like NOS (i have to refill it, damn it! lol) thats it.

Remember the load delta is very high with nitrous (and PD supercharger). Its not with a turbocharger. That is the difference, its that instant shock to the bottom end. The FA20 has relatively small rod and main bearings and not really built for this.

I don't think anyone who starts making real power thinks the stock motor will last forever, or they should think so. Be it nitrous or any forced induction. Once a nitrous kit gets bigger there are lots of trick progressive controllers and systems designed to soften the blow of the kit coming on. Usually this is done in the name of traction but would also be nicer to the rods. I downloaded the NX Maximizer 4 software (You can just download the software to click around before buying the actual controller) and the adjustable ramps are really cool. Also lots of safe guards. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...psa3lxlguo.png |

Ran the NX kit, nice kit. Car didn't like the window switch though. Also...nitrous is like $7.50 a lb around here. $$$$

At OP you probably saw my other thread about deciding on going with nitrous or not and ultimately I decided for the price it will cost me to do it right/proper it was a little over half what a turbo would cost me and knowing my personality I would be filling the bottle more then I care to admit. A $150 here and there sure adds up. So in the end my funds and limited and I feel investing in a 4.88 FD will cost me less and get me more "power" (yes I know it doesn't make power lol) all the time so dollar to performance ratio is better elsewhere. However if funds were unlimited I would love to do it for the fun factor. Someone like you can really benefit from nitrous as it does more then help with spool times and make power it also has a significant cooling property which I am sure you are aware of. |

And that's why I love the sc I have... Been thinking about going turbo, but the centrifugal sc with a very good tune it's more than enough for DD. By the way, outstanding work on that turbo build!!! Very nice indeed :respekt: |
Yeah....NX kit, bottle warmer, remote opener, purge, window switch.... BUT did it right $$$ I liked the nitrous...I LOVE my turbo. lol

Someone is having some fun, from NX Instagram page

I ran spray for 6 years on my EM1 SiR, never had a problem. Compression even after 200,000 km was still almost 215 across the board.
It is all about the user and being smart with it. I also ran a window switch like some of the above posters. |
