Auxiliary/USB port not working

Hello all,

I'm hoping for some collective wisdom here. Just brought home a 2013 Subaru BRZ. I've combed the internet and tried everything we've found to no avail. The aux and usb port will not recognize ANY device. We've seen some similar threads in various forums but none of the suggestions we've come across so far (below) have worked.

-We've tried different devices and phones.
-We've tried having bluetooth both disabled and enabled.
-We've tried having both usb and aux plugged in at the same time and each alone.
-We've made sure the volume on the phone and car is up.
-We looked up the fuse but the owners manual says it would be the radio fuse and the radio is working fine.

The on-screen menu simply won't let us select "aux"- it is always greyed out. Any other ideas to try?

Check to see if the plug is connected to back of radio AND back of the ports

I remember one member had this issue and solution was very simple. Disconnect battery, wait couple minutes and then reconnect it.

If that will not help, remove head unit bezel and there will be 4 screws holding head unit itself. Then you will be able to remove it and check if all connectors are plugged in. Wiring from USB port goes directly to head-unit (AUX connects to other harness).

Thanks for the tips!

I disconnected the battery and waited about 15 minutes before reconnecting it and it didn't do the trick.

The car still has a couple of months left on the factory warranty, so I'm going to let Subaru have a look at it and see what they have to say before I start taking things apart myself.

This helped for me and I just got the car last week. Weird how a brand new 2016 didn't have the USB plugged in to the back of the head unit.

Took it to Subaru today and they said there was a short in the wiring.
I'm going to take it back in a couple of days and get it fixed.
Glad I still have some warranty left :P

Thanks again for the suggestions

Hopefully Subaru does warranty it, either way good news. I have the same issue with mine. I watched a review on youtube about the frs/brz and it turns out there is a particular connector with a pig tail that connects into the aux and usb for the icons to not be grayed out and for ipod/aux connectivity.
