We're not a stickler for safety gear, we should be though...however the track orgs that put the trackdays together could be.

Unfortunately, the helmet vendors we worked with (was in Livermore) has moved their shop to Montana. They gave us discounts.

I thought there was a discount available on Simpson helmets, no?

There is but unfortunately the heavier discounts are with the current 86Cup participants. I'm working on new and incoming participants.

Is the original schedule unchanged? Asking since the one here (http://www.chronoseries.com) seems different.

Keep the schedule you have for the moment. Later dates may change due to organizers and an ongoing plan for something new and exciting in Nov.

Reminder that 2nd round for Norcal will be this Sunday at Thill West with SpeedSF!! Can we have a better turnout than Sonoma last month.

NASA will be on the East side this weekend as well, for their full race weekend. I/O Port Racing Supplies will be racing a Spec-944 Porsche944. Great time to pick his brain about race gear, helmets, etc.

I'm going this weekend but never been to the Thill West side specifically, is registration/parking and all that done on that side? Is there a separate entrance or something?

Same entrance. To get to the west side, after you sign-in, there should be a place to turn left towards the skid pad, you'll trun left there and then drive around the left side of the skidpad, up and over the hill and down to the west side. Should be plenty of places to park there.

So am I, I think. See you all tmrw. Remember, west side aka 2mile side aka new side. If you find yourself around NASA racecars, you're on the wrong side.

Thanks Ed for the truck (already called dibs for June event) and the tremendous help today!!

Pictures? Pictures...

Wasn't terribly happy with the overall quality of the images this time around. I was using my new lens and a lower shutter speed which resulted in a lot of undesirable shots. If you don't see your car, please let me know and I'll scan through the photos again. Here are a few:

Meant to post this here as well!

MAY 30th with Exclusive Track Days Thunderhill 5 Mile, to fill in May Norcal 86 Cup

A good friend of mine puts on various track days under the name “Exclusive Track Days” He is a serious enthusiast with a track addiction, and puts these events on NO PROFIT (and sometimes even a decent loss). He really just does it for the most possible track time. The average track day with him is 6-7 sessions with 25-30 minutes. The events are organized, and safe and a ton of fun!

Currently our date for the Norcal 86 Cup in May, is TBD. Yesterday, after speaking with a couple of 86 cup participants (who had already signed up for the Exclusive event) the possibility of using the 30th as the May Norcal 86 Cup, came up. We are actually already doing an even in October with Exclusive, so here is another opportunity.

I think this event in May could be serious fun, but there are a couple things:

-Although unlikely if we had enough people sign up, we would get OUR OWN RUN GROUP!!! (roughly 25 cars)
-There is no formal event timing, it would be up to anyone wanting to participate, to use their AIM SOLO, Racecapture Pro, even Harry’s, ETC.
- May 30th is a Monday, but it is memorial day weekend, so treat yourself!
-SOCAL guys, we would love to have you! I know you guys want to try the Thunderschleife!
-He needs signups ASAP so if our own run group is possible, it can be organized.
-As it is, this event will only be 3 run groups, so there is going to be a lot of driving time

If you have any interest, or any questions, please feel free to ask or let me know!

mkivsoopra 06-02-2016 08:04 PM

Thanks for coming out to the May event! I'm helping to put together the scores for NorCal 86 Cup. Can everyone who participated in the first three events please send me your class (Stock, Street, Mod, Unlimited) and best time for the event? A screenshot/photo of AIM solo/datalog or official transponder timing would be best. Class points can be calculated according to this: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...kHv5zwEqgc/pub

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who came out to join us this weekend at Buttonwillow for Round 3 and Round 4 of the 2016 NorCal 86 Cup! Also thanks to our generous sponsors, Cusco-Winmax, GT Radial, Counterspace Garage, and Elite Performance, all of whom were present at the event! Despite the scorching heat, there were 25-30 participants in this combined SoCal + NorCal event, many of whom were from NorCal. The heat also took a toll on the participants and really put to test how we setup the cars. Luckily, most of us survived unscathed! Some participants finished the weekend with personal bests, others finished with new knowledge on where to improve. Overall, a very successful event, and congratulations to the winners!

Attached are the timing results and overall ranking for the first 5 events. There may be slight revisions as we iron out some details, but the standings should not change. The results for the first 3 events will be posted soon. We'll be putting together a better way to post the results next time.

Also, I've left the Round # of the events the same, even though we added a May 30 Thunderhill event between 2 and 3. We'll call that Round 2.5 for now.

Last but not least, thanks to our very own @Pwolf for coming out in this heat to take awesome pictures for us!

As promised, here's the results from the first three NorCal 86 Cup events, and the updated standings as of the latest event (Round 4)!

Round 1 - March 13, Sonoma Raceway (horrible weather!)
Round 2 - April 17, Thunderhill West
Round 2.5 - May 30, Thunderhill 5-mile (Thunderschleif)

Looks like we have some healthy battles going on in the GT Radial Street and Modified classes. Hope to see more of you out there at the next events!

I'm happy to announce the new website for NorCal 86CUP! The site is going to provide the most up-to-date schedule, rankings, and timing results. Soon, we will also have an interactive points calculator to help drivers determine what class they're in. Feel free to leave any feedback about the site so that we can make it better!

So, I was asked about joining the 86 cup, but I have a question. I have a "stock" Release Series 1.0. It came, as ordered with factory TRD sway bars, TRD Air intake, TRD aero, etc.

These are all OEM / stock for that model 86. I used the NCRC calculator to account for my tires and wheels, which are the only aftermarket parts on the car. According to the rules and calculator on ncrc, this would classify as stock. Does that hold true?

The RS 1.0 aero pieces do incur points, but you are correct; you can still be in the stock class depending on the tires you run

What wheels/tires are you running? Please be specific.

Damn. Does the Stock class typically have low to no turnout?

This season, we haven't had anyone run in Stock class yet, but maybe we'll have a contender soon. ;)

Guess I'll stay out of it. I have too much fun with those wheels and tires and am not going to give up that fun or join a highly competitive Street class at only 1pt of upgrades. :sigh:

Thanks Mike for the clarification.

86CUP isn't about min/maxing; most people just drive in whatever class they happen to fall in.

PMok 06-21-2016 06:30 PM

yeah I'd encourage you to join 86CUP and do it for the fun... I'll be honest I am not hyper competitive in personality and I'll never be as fast as some of the other guys in my class... some seriously gifted individuals in this, and it almost doesn't even matter what mods they have on their car, they will just straight up be faster than me, even in a stock car. Yet somehow I took home 3rd in class two years in a row haha. (Constant attendance helps)

I'm not in it for the trophies, I'm in it for the camraderie, the spirit of competition, and the motivation to push myself to be a better driver. Not necessarily a better driver than others, but better than I was before. It doesn't cost much to participate above and beyond what you're already spending to do track days (no registration costs at this time, just the cost of timing equipment), so why not do it?

Thanks to everyone who braved the heat and came out to Round 6 of the NorCal 86CUP at Thunderhill West! It was a scorcher on Saturday, with the temperature over 105º, but many drivers still ran great times or personal bests.

As you'll see in the results, the lap times were very competitive, and the competition is heating up! Great job, everyone! Visit our website at http://norcal86cup.mkivsoopra.com for the complete details and current standings.

On a side note, three of our drivers participated in the separate SpeedSF Challenge, and all three took podium finishes! Congrats!

Thanks to our host today, Speed SF Track Events, for organizing a safe and fun event, and to Bill Wang & crew for taking the extra time to do the photo shoot at the end. Stay tuned for some awesome photos!

As usual, thanks to our sponsors for making this all happen!

Thanks for coming out to Round 7 and Round 8 of the NorCal 86Cup Challenge! What an incredible weekend! It's amazing to see everyone get faster and faster with every event. This time, we finally have someone go sub-2:00 at Thunderhill (bypass) in NorCal 86Cup!! Congrats to "AK" for running a blistering 1:59.84, in a daily driver that sees 70+ commute miles/day! Great job to everyone else, with new personal bests all over the place.

Oddly enough, Unlimited class suddenly got very crowded and Mod class shrank. This will make for an interesting next few events!

Please visit the website for complete results and standings: http://norcal86cup.mkivsoopra.com/

As always, thanks to the continued support from our sponsors for helping make all of this possible!

Also note that the next event is on Oct 2, not Oct 1, at Thunderhill West.
