Looking for Ceramic Coaters in GTA
 

Any recommendation?

I have heard of Fireball Coatings but they are too far and turn around time is a little too long for my liking.

Looking to get some aftermarket headers coated.

I did them myself with the VHT flameproof ceramic header paint. I was skeptical because it is like $10 per can and to have them professionally done is like $200. However, I am so impressed with this stuff. Keeps them cool and I went underneath to snug up the headerbolts a couple weeks after I installed and there is no chipping or peeling! It's all about the prep work!

I thought part of the process in order for the coating to really stick requires the headers to be baked in the oven? I could be wrong.

Even VHT header paint has to be baked in oven to be cured properly. I think you got to heat to around 250F and cool it off and then heat it to around 450F and cool it off to properly cure it. But, you can do it at home if you got a oven in your garage or infrared lamp.

You can 'bake' them with on the car.

Paint must be completely dry before curing
• Run at idle for 10 minutes
• Cool for 20 minutes
• Run at idle for 20 minutes
• Cool for 20 minute
• Run under normal operating conditions for 30 minutes

Try Stripping Technologies, they're in Cambridge by have agreements with a few shops in the GTA for pickup/delivery (NV Auto, NextMod, etc)

What are the advantages (and disadvantages if any) to coating a set of headers. Purchasing a set in the next few weeks and this thread got me thinking.

I'm also in the GTA and drive the car all year round so I'm interested to know.

The advantages are to manage the heat emission from the header.

AFAIK, all aftermarket headers ditch the factory heat shield. So when you swap out the header, the heat from the header can propogate to your oil pan since they are very close to each other. Others have seen coil packs near the header go bad also.

When it's coated, there is less heat loss from the header into the engine bay.

I guess the disadvantage would be the cost and possible flaking of the coating after the fact.

From what I have read the borla headers are ceramic coated directly from the manufacturer. Not sure if it is any good though.
