Aftermarket Seats
Hey everyone - looking at buying aftermarket seat for track days as I am likely buying a HANS/etc this spring. I am looking for something to help lower me in the car as my helmet will scrape the headliner with the OEM seats. What setup are you running, did it lower you in the car? I am 6'1" and about 225lbs so need to find a seat that fits me, and the car. Need to work on the last part, but most of us will say that.
Post up your setup, pics, and what you are using for brackets! |
You can go with a Corbeau FX1 Wide setup ( I am 6'6" 250) if you're looking to save some money or you can go as far as a Sparco ergo or an EVO 3
|
Virtually any bucket seat will lower your head relative to the headliner if the seat rails are side mount.

If you can, go sit in a bunch of them to see what what you like best. I was looking at either a Racetech or Recaro Pro Hans but ended up with an OMP HTE-R as it was by far the most comfortable and best fitting for me. The wide Recaro was a bit to big but the normal was painfully tight.
Good luck. |

Got any pics of the OMP, they are so comfy! |

I went with the Sparco Pro 2000 II which is a fairly wide seat. I really like it. Keep in mind you will not retain the use of factory seat belts with a lot of seats. So, you need to consider a roll bar/cage with a bar for the harness. You can get just the harness bar but you risk your safety in a roll over (stock seat belts allow your torso to bend to the side, your harness will not). Some people think bolting in a race seat is a simple affair, but a lot of times it involves adding a roll cage, and harness.

I have the Cobra Suzuka Pro GT which is pretty wide and fits the car perfectly.

Yes, the rest of that is all implied, looking to start using a hans device, need to get the full setup figured out. The seat is the key thing IMO, the rest is "easy". |

Ya, we have no shops locally that would ever consider stocking seats. Even in the Minneapolis area. There is one guy, but he only has 2 OMP seats. Just have to find seats in cars somerwhere. The joys of the Midwest! |

I'm 6'2" and about 225 as well. I have the Sparco Ergo Large and if it was any bigger, it wouldn't fit in the car. The seat fits me perfectly though. I have side mounts with sliders. If you can get away with not using sliders it will put you almost an inch lower in the car.

Sparco Ergo Large, Planted base, Sparco slider, Sparco side mounts with seat on the 2nd holes from the bottom which is the lowest you can mount the seat with a slider.
Ignore the mess in the pics... the car is undergoing some pre-season changes. |

I am 6'1 235lbs longer torso I was concern with seat and the helmet to. I installed the recaro spg and nagasi rails and work great. I put it to the lowest setting and I have like 3 inches of head room still.

I just bought the FX1's too, non-wide edition and my fat 275lbs fits... It's a bit snug but as I lose a bit of weight it'll be perfect. They're really light and I'd venture to say they are better then the FIA/SFI approved Corbeau Forza. |
sorry i dont mean to hijack your thread but, will removing one seat disable BOTH front airbags? or just the one associated seat?
Im planning on removing my passenger seat, and it would be great to know. Thanks in advance! |

Running a Recaro Pole Position on a Planted seat base, no sliders. Sits a little bit lower then the OEM seat height but not by much (or at least it doesn't seem like it). Can upload some pictures later.
*edit: for reference, I'm 5'8 and roughly ~150lbs |
I am running a Bimarco futura, FIA approved for larger folks, upp to 200cm long and 75-110kg in body weight, it's a little bit large for me :)
But it fits in the twins whi out any hassle and the price is under 400$ for a 8kg seat. http://rejsa.nu/im/user/17913/2015-0...5_img_0478.jpg |

Thanks brother! They look great and looks like they fit really good. How comfortable are they on the street or on longer drives?

I run bride zeta 3 with oem belt , modify the buckle to a belt type like you did . Take some time for the job but it work great, easy to buckle up and tight enough for track day . I have the belt go over both harness tunnel . |

I did let the wife make me an extra seat cushion, for those longer drives  But now days the car is a track only, so it spends most of its time riding trailer too and from the track. |
