FRS front grill modification

So I like the look of some 86's without the front grill, but hate the look of the styrofoam painted or stock crash bar painted. So I'm wondering if anyone has any pictures of the front grill cut out below the solid section that covers the styrofoam/crash bar?

Poor photo shop example of my car to illustrate what I mean

An alternative to painting the foam or crash bar would be to swap out the crash bar for an aftermarket one (such as the beatrush option). Obviously this isn't as safe as the OE bar but racecar. They are more narrow so you can't see it from the grill area

Yes I've considered that, it's an option. The plus side would be sweet Beatrush bling, downside would be an even bigger opening showing off my lack of FMIC or oil cooler haha

Install the Beatrush front beam brace and polish the radiator and AC condenser lines/ends as well as powder coat the surrounding brackets to add some visuals to the opening.

Here mine...

You should probably get an oil cooler anyway since these cars run hot. The Maximal option is relatively cheap.

You could also just switch out the entire grill for some kind of wire mesh from the home improvement store to switch up the look. I think the FRS looks good with the open mouth regardless of what it's filled with

I almost bought the Mishimoto kit a couple months ago but the CAN-USD conversion is absolutely killing me right now! :( Before I cut the stock one I'll definitely give it a shot with it totally out to see how I like it

Not worried...my 86 is not a daily driver... plus, HKS intercooler is going to occupy that spot soon.

OP...I cut off and dremeled the tabs off the bumper that the grille mounts to as I did not plan on re-installing it. As long as you don't do that you could always go back if you don't like how it looks.

I'm loving the polished and powder coat idea. I will definitely be doing this with the remaining winter months.

Use it as an excuse to go turbo. Can't go wrong with a polished or anodized black (what I will be using) FMIC...

The polishing I did by hand using blue magic and a microfiber cloth... I also used a Dremel with felt polishing wheels.

You don't even have to powder coat... I did because I was having some other things coated so I just added the brackets... you could just use duplicolor metal cast paints... duplicolor has many colors avaliable...this paint works pretty well at mimicking an anodized finish. Check it out.

Here comes zeal with his car porn again. Always making my car jealous I'll have to delete my history.

Heres a cheaper alternative to the Beatrush crash bar that I just ordered.

Plan on giving it a shot of red for some extra bumper opening sweg for anyone that cares to look.

Finally found someone who has the grill modified like I was thinking of doing. Since I have fogs now I think the leftover honeycomb would look out of place (IMO). Won't be doing it anymore

Looks like the car has a big dirty buck tooth.
