I can't say that my BRZ has been trouble free anymore

It started making evil whirring noises yesterday when pushing in and releasing the clutch so I assume it's the TOB. What's everyone's favorite clutch if power levels are never going to go much above stock but the car does see a few track events a year? Is the ACT HD Street kit a good choice?

I was planning on changing it later this year when I hit 100k miles, it's a shame the sombitch couldn't last that long.

How worried do I have to be about driving it 250 miles to my friends house to do the work?

For the record:
The car is an early 2013 model and has 88k miles
I don't hold the clutch in at lights
The car I traded in for this one (Golf TDI) had 100k miles on the original clutch, my TT has 120k with the original clutch

TIA

Does this "evil whirring noises" not sound like a flywheel rattle? The TOB are bad on this car anyways. I'm at 34k miles and I'm having the TOB and whole trans being replaced at the dealer right now because I had a flywheel rattle noise while trans was cold (TOB) and the trans would whine louder than usual(thats why getting new trans under warranty).

If the TOB is bad you'll be fine for a couple of miles. 250 miles won't hurt anything.

I came on ft86club today to look at throw out bearing threads because mine went into the shop this morning for a new one. My car is also an early 2013 with has 88k miles and it is getting used OEM replacement parts (besides the bearings) since I am reusing parts from a motor & trans that I bought out of a wrecked car.

Regarding the 250 mile drive... my understanding is that it is not the distance that is a problem as much as how much you plan on using the clutch or holding in the clutch pedal during that trip.

Not really a problem, as you race it and it has 88k miles on it in two years. Thats normal clutch wear that's abnormal with the racing and such. Lota miles + hard driving = BURNED UP CLUTCH. I'm guessing you'd never burned it up with average miles and normal driving

I think your safe to drive it if you baby it along

I don't race the car, 4-6 HPDE days a year should not destroy it this fast. The clutch is fine, it's just the shitty TOB that is bad. Most of the miles on this car are highway going back and forth to work. I'm much harder on my TT than I am on this car.

But 88k in a few years is a helluva buncha miles.

I commute 94 miles per day, mostly highway with about 0.5 miles on each end and below is what happened to mine after 88k miles. Also for anyone who says I don't know how to drive stick, I have had several manual cars in the past 18 years: two Hondas, one Hyundai, a Saturn and this car and I have driven this car less miles than any one of them and none of them have I ever replaced the clutch or TOB... Until today.

same! My pickup still has stock TOB and is at 323k. My Celi had it replaced at 260k and my ae86 never did and it hit like 480k!

fr-s has different materials aimed at lighter weights than durability than older cars
everything in this car breaks!!!
lol just playing.

... of course i can't help but have my suspicions ...

if I could go back when i swapped my stock clutch I would have gotten a Exedy Stage 1 .. instead of the stock Exedy clutch :X
oh well

Sorry to hear this happened.

The trip will be almost all highway, early in the morning so there is little traffic.
