PICKING TRANNY 2JZ FRS

ive seen alot of people using the v160 trans for the 2jz. but why?

why arent we using a t56 or turbo 400 for a cheaper fix for a transmission? what am i missing here?

Dream20b 02-03-2016 07:40 PM

because its the trans the 2JZGTE supra came with.

I'd use a T56. Somewhere along the way, I've read it's been used and fits with some tunnel massaging.

yea if i remember correctly:iono: T56 with GTO shifter should line it up pretty close to factory location.

The v160 fits and is a very capable transmission. Well it fits after you cut the factory frs transmission mount out and make a new mount. As well it does not require any special adapters and you can use an over the counter clutch. For those trying to save pennies when doing this swap the r154 has been used. I prefer not to use those mainly do to age. There are a lot of transmission options, you just have to pick your poison and decide what fabrication you are willing to do. For drag racing applications I feel the turbo 400 would be hard to beat, but I do not feel that would be an ideal daily transmission.

Thinking the r154 is goin to be my pick, cheaper, can hold the power range I want 600-700whp. I found an extension that can be made from a company for $250 that can be made to extend anywhere from 2-6" and I figured that would work fine seeing how the v160 trans is longer by only a few inches, where the shifter goes anyway. Probably going to be my pick

Hello,

The V160 from factory is amazing. We have pushed the limits on that transmission. here is an example of one of our clients:

This car was making 1600hp+ on the factory V160 transmission with a Tilton Quad Carbon clutch.

That goes the same for this clients build as well:

There are other transmission options as you mentioned. It just depends on the purpose of your build and how much power you are trying to produce.

TH400 is massive I highly doubt it will fit in our trans tunnel without a lot of massaging, and TH350 probably wont survive long behind a 2jz

Because this swap isn't cheap. People choose their trans based on what their build will be centered around. So many things need to be custom that size/cost is a relative obstacle.

As I told you, I got my trans 2 years ago when prices were about 40% cheaper than they are now. The price will only go up. If you decide to buy a V160, get it as soon as you can.
