What I hope is that we also get the choice in trim levels that everybody else gets to make that price jump worth while.

I think the jump in price will include <some> features that other markets take for granted in their 86's that were omitted so SCION could focus on affordability.

Toyota please learn the errors of monospec and never pull that crap again!!

AND

Give us more choices with accessories we've been denied for so long (Subaru guys, this'll help you as your accessory selection is pretty lame too)!

Perfect plan! Buy the car, take care of it, enjoy it because buying a car under the impression it's going to appreciate and make you rich is a dopey idea.

Get a Toyota unless I get a steal on a BRZ or FRS on clearance.

Getting laid off is the worst, imagine it in the public eye? I hope they are rehired -the caveat is they'll have to move to Texas as the Toyota mothership is fleeing Torrance CA.

Lets keep in mind that the cars are very expensive in Europe and England. Not saying we will have to pay these prices but we can not for one second expect to buy European 86 speced cars for FRS prices
England Prices: or "a little more"

Primo Man (6-speed)£22,700.00 - $33,105

GT86 – No Spoiler Man (6-speed) £25,000.00 - $36,459

GT86 – No Spoiler Auto £25,995.00 - $37,910

AeroMan (6-speed) £27,500.00 - $40,105

BlancoMan (6-speed) £28,500.00 - $41,563

I can imagine it would suck for them. However, I say move to Texas! If they can't, then yeah, that would suck.

Packofcrows 02-03-2016 10:41 PM

Scion duh

dnieves 02-03-2016 10:44 PM

Anybody notice scion.com and pressroom are not online? Talk about pulling the plug.

DarkPhoenix 02-03-2016 10:57 PM

Considering that's just a 400 error, I wouldn't think that's intentional. It may be getting hit with more traffic than they thought and they've got a server error occurring.

In fact, it's a cookie error. Delete your cookies and it'll be fine and load properly. The site isn't down.

If they were taking it down, I'd expect them to redirect it at the least - no company wants to lose that sort of traffic.

If I recall from the Press Release we are talking like 20 -25people here. Ya it would suck but I know local restaurants that closed and threw more people than that out of work.
Hell Target bought Zellers and threw thousands out and then a year after converting them all closed the Targets and threw those that got rehired out again. This was a lot more in the public eye than Scion's demise will be (in Canada).
Scion will go away and about 98% of the public will never notice. Not like if Ford or GM went away.

Ashikabi 02-04-2016 12:01 AM

Everyone is going to freak out when the "new" Toyota FRS costs 30k. I'm gonna lol

miyoshi82 02-04-2016 12:03 AM

Depends, if the new Toyota FRS looks terribad. I might as well give up and go buy a 370z.

Sonicp9 02-04-2016 12:14 AM

I recently picked up a new raven 2016 FRS with foglights and bongiovi acoustics (Canada). Today I just found out I own the last model year FRS. I quickly made the decision that this vehicle is going to remain OEM, with only exception of additional OEM spoiler and possibly TRD parts, won't be driven next winter, and won't be debadged.

Quentin 02-04-2016 12:21 AM

I guess I'm pretty happy that I leased it. If the value tanks because of the orphan brand and I choose to keep it, I will get to buy it out cheap. If the value tanks because of the orphan brand and I choose to let it go, I was lucky to have leased it.

Overall, I haven't decided if I will keep it. We're buying a MINI Clubman for my wife later this year or early next year, so I could just keep the old MINI if I let the FR-S go. Or let both go and just drop down to 2 cars until something really piques my interest. Maybe buy a salvage FR-S and actually take it to the track. haha

It isn't like Scion actually made the bloody things it is just a Toyota with some stick on plates.
The only thing that is likely is the price of the 17s up just jumped a couple of thousand dollars for no real reason other than Toyota.

Yup, yup and then more yups! :w00t:

Here in Hawaii the Scion dealerships are owned by Servco Hawaii which also owns the Toyota dealership in this state. BTW Servco Hawaii isn't part of Toyota USA. The Scion employees won't be losing their jobs, they'll just be going to the Toyota dealerships. ;)

I'll do nothing in terms of Scion being dumped as a brand.
My car will continued to be serviced by Servco Hawaii. My FRS isn't the first Scion I owned. I look forward to modding my sexy FRS. ;)

DarkPhoenix 02-04-2016 12:45 AM

I just think there's a lot of overreaction going on here. You bought a car. The car has a certain value. That value isn't likely to drastically change within the next few years. Typically, when car values change that significantly, it's over a period of time. There's a lot of fuss over nothing.

Enjoy your FR-S. Nothing is going to change for you right now. :)

Good. Maybe now they'll finally slap the Celica badge on it that it should've had from the start.

It could be a great marketing move. Refreshed body, new name, higher price. Win/Win for Toyota.

.

Scion employees will be given new positions elsewhere in the company.

FYI Toyota, "Lexus", and "Scion" employees all work under the same roof and get a paycheck from Toyota.

IE issue, Chrome and Safari to the rescue.

If they wish to relocate as per the press release. My whole point was that20 people is not a huge impact.

You are correct. When the 1st86 went to Long Beach we got to tour Scion Central. I was amazed at how small it was. Most of the employees were call center/service type persons. I probably shook hands with 2/3rds of the Scion corporate employees at the time.

pLaydEad86 02-04-2016 08:46 AM

Blows my mind that people actually think that the fr-s is a true scion car like the TC, xb, xd, iA, iM. It's a rebranded gt86 for fuck's sake and the only thing that is "Scion" on the car are the badges. Why should i panic about scion closing when in the first place my car should have been branded as a toyota. Smh

AMEN!!!
I must have typed something along that line 50 times yesterday. A badge change is just that a change in badges. The car remains the same as always.

Theyre already in the same building. Scion is more or less an internal department, HR-wise. It should be more considered that their position is obsolete, not similar to a retail merger at all.
The HQ is relocating to Plano TX. So all employees who work in Torrance, Toyota or Lexus will have to relocate if they wish t stay on.
There are regional sales offices accross the country which won't move.

Incorrect. I was using Chrome when I got the error myself. I simply cleared all cookies for *.scion.com and it was resolved.

I do not touch IE unless I am forced to for work (and even then, we don't officially support it).

IE didn't give me an error just the vague page can't be displayed (has happened before but cleared up without having the clear my cookies) and since Chrome and Safari worked right off the bat I (like most people) are quick to blame IE. Did you know IE is believed to be the root of all evil, punctured tires and the reason Toyota dumped SCION?

:)

IE mixes skittles into M&Ms in the party candy bowl.

saj 02-05-2016 02:50 PM

Good riddance, I've always hated Scions. It's embarrassing to tell non-car people I own a "Scion" even though it is just a re-badge.

Scion? Isn't that those boxy cars. They're ugly.

Zhangy 02-05-2016 03:57 PM

I remember in my after purchase scion survey asking them badge the frs under toyota... guess they listened to us ;)

Just FYI, the xB and xD are iB and iD in Japan. The iM is the Auris in Japan and Europe. iA...is pretty much a restyled Mazda2.
