I wonder if Hachi (Master admin) is going to change the titles of buttons and links on the forum to "Toyota FRS" now.
Wait, this isn't Random Thoughts. |

The magical badge fairy will swoop down on all our cars and debadge/rebadge for us overnight! |
Seems to me like a lot of people are eager for this consolidation. For me it is more bittersweet.
Toyota's brand never appealed to me, probably because of my distaste for the Celica and Supra. While I respected Scion's experimental methods and enjoyed the purchasing process, I never developed an enthusiasm for Scion's brand either. Nonetheless, my FR-S is the first car to my name, my choice, work, sweat, and dollars. So no matter how much I might enjoy more powerful and advance cars in the future, my little coupe will always have a special place in my heart. And whatever debate there might be about the genealogy of the GT86/BRZ/FR-S, mine is yellow and came with a Scion badge. It is at least some part Scion. So I am still sad to see its badge retired. Yet it is also sweet, to see the embattled brand finally laid to rest. Undeniable the GT88/BRZ/FR-S/FT86/2nd-gen-Hachi-Roku, or whatever you choose to call it, evokes a different feeling for each and everyone of you. But Scion gifted me with my SO's anger and envy, and it deserves at least a few sincere words from me. Goodnight enthusiasts. |

Wow! Big news! Great news actually! Scion is dead! Long live Toyota!
This should also mean no more PurePrice or MonoSpec BS so I might actually be able to get a higher trim model like you can everywhere else in the world, and be able to negotiate prices. Now Japan just needs to look into ridding the shady dealer add-ons. I've stopped by every Toyota dealer in my area and with every Scion FR-S they get, they load it with tint, pin-stripe stickers, cheap LED lights in the fog area, green tire valve caps/nitrogen, and other cheap add-ons for hundreds of dollars more. So I straight up told the sales reps that walked up to me, "No, sorry, I don't want it because you've loaded it up with all this garnish that I don't even want." And they said, "You're beating a dead horse. If you want our cars, you have to get our garnish." So I told them, "No, I'll just have to go to another state to buy from a dealer that doesn't do this crap then." |

I have a 2008 tC (bought new) and that thing is built like a tank (it's slow but it's typical Toyota reliability). |

Lol at people celebrating over an emblem change.

In fact, Toyota should provide emblems swaps to all past FRS owners free of charge. |

Seriously dude why would they swap badges! That would cost tons of $$$ to do. Toyota isn't about giving freebies unless there is some recall on their cars. peeps should not be so worried bout losing the Scion brand. it's like peeps got their bvd's all bunched up in their okole's (< lookup that word) over this whole Scion axed.:popcorn::popcorn::lol::lol::lol: |
I wonder what the implications are for the Scion Racing program.
|
Watch in a couple of years the cool kids will be swapping their Toyota badges for Scion badges on their next gen Toyota FRS

I, for one, didn't really like to be associated with a brand that's completely a marketing gimmick. Especially when the marketing gimmick is "our cars are cool and hip" and "if you don't know shit about cars but want to look cool buy a scion". However, I could deal with that, because a brand is just a brand and it's still truly a Toyota. I also don't really care what other people think; it was more of a choice not to buy Scion based on personal principle. What put the nail in the coffin and had me looking at the BRZ as a first priority instead is the monotrim philosophy of Scion. I plan to keep this car for a long time, so I'd gladly shell out the extra 2 grand for the HIDs, climate control, rear spoiler, and better seats. Being keyless is neat too. The two things I like better about the FRS are the front design and the tachometer being easier to read. Red on white is pretty distinct compared to everything orange. I've found that the front of the BRZ has grown on me though. Every car designer is making their cars aggressive and angry so it's starting to look silly and like a fad. A personal gripe that they may or may not change is the naming of the model as "FRS". It clashes with the "GT86" on the fender flares. I was going to buy a new BRZ when the 2017 MY details were revealed but now it seems I have to wait a bit to see if Toyota will bring in the GT86 as a trim. Maybe I should just say fuck it and go buy a BRZ tomorrow and be done with all this. |

10 pages about an Official badge swap... A couple comments caught my eye.
The $20k goal was in a magazine from 2007. Even 8 or 10 years ago doesn't inflate the value enough to cover the difference. Toyota/Subaru never hit the price or weight targets from the rumormill. I don't remember what their internal targets were but they were close if I remember right. There are several decent cars from hothatches to american muscle in the sub $30k market today. Only one is a "traditional sports car" and that is the MX-5. The designations are just marketing terms that were made up to sell cars. I never placed any more or less value between Scion and Toyota badges. Even the Subaru badge doesn't mean much to me. I don't place a lot of emotional value on corporate badges. |

As an outsider who doesn't live in the Americas I never quite understood why on earth Toyota re-branded some of their own cars which to many in the world are perceived as class leading, highly reliable & bombproof. Almost everyone on this forum knows that the FRS is really an 86/BRZ designed, engineered & built by Toyota/Subaru !

Apparently they choose to name the Scion FR-S: The Toyota FR-S. Missed opportunity if you asked me:
