Hey, it matters to some people.
I, for one, didn't really like to be associated with a brand that's completely a marketing gimmick. Especially when the marketing gimmick is "our cars are cool and hip" and "if you don't know shit about cars but want to look cool buy a scion".
However, I could deal with that, because a brand is just a brand and it's still truly a Toyota. I also don't really care what other people think; it was more of a choice not to buy Scion based on personal principle.
What put the nail in the coffin and had me looking at the BRZ as a first priority instead is the monotrim philosophy of Scion. I plan to keep this car for a long time, so I'd gladly shell out the extra 2 grand for the HIDs, climate control, rear spoiler, and better seats. Being keyless is neat too. The two things I like better about the FRS are the front design and the tachometer being easier to read. Red on white is pretty distinct compared to everything orange. I've found that the front of the BRZ has grown on me though. Every car designer is making their cars aggressive and angry so it's starting to look silly and like a fad.
A personal gripe that they may or may not change is the naming of the model as "FRS". It clashes with the "GT86" on the fender flares.
I was going to buy a new BRZ when the 2017 MY details were revealed but now it seems I have to wait a bit to see if Toyota will bring in the GT86 as a trim.
Maybe I should just say fuck it and go buy a BRZ tomorrow and be done with all this.
