What got you out of depression?

Been experiencing the blues lately. I don't know what's wrong. I exercise, eat right, things are ok on all fronts but just feel blue. Just sad for no reason. I hate it.

If any of you have been depressed, what got you out of it besides meds?

You're on the right track. Playing a ton of basketball helped me out. Hanging out with friends helped too. Having someone to talk to about your troubles can be a big help.

ButeraFRS 02-01-2016 11:53 PM

ive never had it. But I'm commenting to wish you good luck on your healing and I hope someone gives you the advice you're looking for.

hang in there dude.

Yoga. SCCA. Oddly SCCA got me working out and eating better; which did help.

New (additional) friends can help; I found I was depressed a lot when I hung out with people who just smoked/drank/whatever as their free time. No offense to any of my older friends; but it's nice to be hanging out with people who are doing things with their free time. I say this because sometimes it can be a negative feedback loop where both work and free time are negativity. If people are just pissing and moaning all weekend; you'll be right back at work/school Monday morning, but more depressed.

just my thoughts.

Going on a drive with no destination in mind. Helps me clear my thoughts.

Things that help and have helped me.
Clean area I am hanging out in.
Exercise, I do push ups and pull ups.
A plan. I plan to go do something I like. Like go for a hike.
No alcohol. It's a depressant. This one is major!
Calling a true friend. I call my best man.
Weed. (It's legal here in Oregon)
I focus on what I can change/fix. It's not easy.
Forgive myself for past indiscretions. There have been many, but they make me who I am.
Remember I'm a good person. I am working on being positive.
Eat healthy. This is important, I feel better when I get enough protein. I supplement with a shake.
Loose negative "friends" simple to understand, hard to do.
Find friends that are supportive. Some go to church, some go to the gym, some go to aa, some call their mom, I'm on ft86 right now. Pm me if you want.

I think you're missing excitement from your life. I was experiencing this for a little while. Go try out something new and fun. I went paintballing/airsofting here and there. Shooting helped a little but I wanted a bigger rush. Did the trick for me.

Captain Snooze 02-02-2016 01:18 AM

This is not going to help.
What you are experiencing is normal. It is part of this crazy thing called life.

Well, sounds like you have a shitty feeling not the medical thingy.
I had a few months feeling like that, no gf, shitty job, zero time to do shit, being just a lonely fat ass, shit like that.

Then I saw a coupon for a $40 hour massage, so did that and liked it. Starting feeling a bit better then some how looking for cheap massages I found a rub & tug one. So I got it made me feel way better. So the next time I fucked a hot Chinese whore (with protection duh) so after that I felt way way better. Self confidence sky rocketed.
I stopped getting massages, started working out at home, eating less junk food, lost 10lbs in a month. Noticed the check out girl checking me out which lead to more go out more, at least to check out some shitty local bands and have a few drinks.

So guess what I'm trying to say, fuck a whore.

Get a therapist who is well-versed in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Both have research backing them as being at least somewhat effective.

Consider taking ecstasy or ketamine. They are reportedly much more effective against depression than any legal drug.

Then there's the New Deal: always effective against great depressions.

This. I like to think of my FR-S as my ultimate cure for depression.

Disclaimer: I have never actually experienced any depression that I needed medical treatment for.

do what you love. as long as its not murder or anything, then by all means go for it.

whenever im down or pissed off or need to cool off before i go on a killing spree..

i do what i love the most, sometimes thatll vary day-to-day. sometimes itll be getting into the nit and grit of cars, learning, and all that jazz. Or sometimes itll be video games and some beers. Maybe some game of thrones?

other times i just need to shut myself off from the world for a few days, as i have found some of my blues arent of my own creation rather a side effect of dealing with too many people for an extended period of time.

Teseo 02-02-2016 05:52 AM

Dont use medicines! Will get worse, when im down i wash my frs and take it for a spin. Or hire a hooker, a good one who can hear your problems. Sometimes talking with random people who dont know shit about you relief the burden on you

Tcoat 02-02-2016 06:08 AM

For crying out loud people the dude isn't asking "what is this weird noise in my car".

First off do not seek help on a car forum. Easily half of us are probably suffering from some sort of mental illness in the first place. I bet the list would be impressive.

Secondly, if you feel at all that you may be suffering from depression go to the doctor!
