Fluterring sound after header and op install
So i recently installed the 1320 performance uel header and op. After the install we took it for a drive and noticed a really annoying fluttering kind of sound. We tried the soapy water test and couldn't find anything. I also am using new oem gaskets. Does anybody know where the noise could possibly coming from? And how much on average would a muffler shop charge me to get this leak fixed?
Heres a drive by video of the sound, increase volume if you don't hear it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCQD...ature=youtu.be |
Sounds normal-ish to me. You don't mean the UEL header burble, do you?
The only other thing that I hear is a slight rattle, which could be from running the stock catback (if you're running the stock catback), or maybe from the overpipe contacting the frame. |

The other thing I'd look at is if the header is touching the skid plate. |

Alright thanks for the suggestions! I am truly a noob when it comes to putting car parts on. |
I just put on the same header/op combo. Sounds exactly the same. Checked for leaks, nothing. Using grimmspeed gaskets. Just how it sounds...

There's multiple threads on this already and it's been answered. If you've tested for leaks and there aren't any, what you're hearing is the exhaust flow because of thinner metal, no heat shield, no cat.
It's normal, enjoy your header :) |

FWIW, I have a tomei uel with stock overpipe and had a leak due to my overpipe flange being somehow warped.
It made fluttering sounds before as well as the annoying ticking sound upon accelerating. tried whatever I could to tighten and replace gaskets and put high temp sealant on the gasket. It still leaks a little but I'll just replace the overpipe and front pipe in a few months when I save up some monies |

My only suggestion is if you're worried like I was, is to just take the car into the shop and ask to see what they can do to fix the leaks |
Ive just installed the same parts (1320 UEL header and 60mm OP). The car already had a Borla catback. I love the rumble out the back, but I'm not loving the high-pitched flutter sound. It does seem to be a 'feature' of the thinner walls, lack of heat shields, etc.
I think I'll take a swing at wrapping the header in hopes that it will dampen the ringing sound of hot gas slamming against the inner walls of the tubing. If that doesn't work, my 1320 UEL will be available in the for sale section soon. |
