Insurance Premium

Probably not warranted of a new thread.

but, i have Geico Auto insurance and just noticed when it renewed my insurance, my premium went up 200 dollars. 25 of age , no accidents or tickets what gives :sigh: can you rookies stop crashing your car.

anybody else go up?

Kiske 01-30-2016 04:36 PM

Your welcome!

$200? Mine went up $20.00 when I paid in december (6mo...)

Jfheisenberg 01-30-2016 06:10 PM

Mine its Geico $181 per month for full cover. I have two points in my insurance that will go away end of this year.

TofuJoe 01-30-2016 10:05 PM

My Geico policy went up $200 this year. I shopped around and ended up switching to AAA which was the same price as I was paying before. Bye bye lizard!

Side 01-30-2016 10:27 PM

Mine is $150 a month full coverage through AAA/Progressive. Currently have a few safe driver discounts, and it'll drop again when I turn 25 later this year.

dtrop 01-30-2016 10:53 PM

It doesn't matter what our insurance are or how they go up or down.

We don't live in the same town as you and we don't have all equivalent records and personal information.

acetothermus 01-30-2016 10:58 PM

You guys are going to hate me, but.......

My monthly went up near enough to 60 dollars (US) a month as not to matter. Of course I have good driver, multicar, and another discount that I can't remember. I'm paying right around 163 for full coverage on two cars, a 2016 BRZ and a 2008 Tacoma.

edit: No accidents ever since I've been driving, had a speeding ticket well over 15 years ago (that's long dropped off the record) and that's it.

I pay $500/month hahaha!! 22 years old and 1 speeding ticket the will expire this year

B-R-Z 01-30-2016 11:50 PM

So many things go into your rate. I work in the industry.

age
sex
marital status
where you live (this is a major contributing factor)
credit history
claim history
motor vehicle history (violations/tickets)
mileage driven (daily/annually)

Plus each company has their own rating system so comparing one company to the next isn't feasible.

mdm 01-30-2016 11:58 PM

I don't have a twin, but thinking of potentially buying one, I recently run a quote on Geico website (I have my current car insured with them) and apparently it would be $650/6 months to insure a new FRS for me.

By a chance how old are you?

Not 22, obviously. Multiply by two and you will be very close.

Also, quite unexplicably ;-) I have had only one speeding ticket 7 or 8 years ago, plus one speed camera ticket maybe 5 years ago, and none of these seemed to affect my insurance AFAIR.

Brayden_23 01-31-2016 12:28 AM

Just for comparison sake, I will chime in here.

I am 22 and my monthly payment is only ~$60. Granted I don't have full coverage (probably will upgrade soon) which is probably why it's so low. I also have USAA who give me discounts for pretty much everything (legacy discount, safe driver discount, good student discount, good looking discount... :bellyroll:)

My premiums haven't increased at all either. I had a hunch that buying a "sports car" would be a little more expensive to insure, so even if my rate goes up I really can't complain. This car really attracts that age group (my age group) who buy this car because it looks great and we need to show off how absolutely friggin awesome it is even though we haven't quite honed our hooning skills just yet. I think we all knew this going in so as sucky as it is, it seems like it will be a fact of owning this car.

Rifle 01-31-2016 12:39 AM

21. Suburban PA. On my parents insurance, multi car/home owners, etc.
credit ~700-750. Claims, 1 total loss 1.5 years ago. 100k/300k/full coverage. '16 Hyper.Blue

$277/mo.

Someplace there is a whole thread on this. Geico raised their premiums a shitload across the board on all cars. It isn't just the twins.
Start shopping dude.

HOOORAY it is the semi annual insurance premium d1ck measuring contest!
Unless you guys all live in the same house, have exactly the same driving history, are exactly the same age and are exactly the same person then comparing premiums does not mean squat. Not even to "compare" or "get an idea".

Well one can get an idea how disparate premiums can be.

Of course they are very disparate that was my point.
What a guy pay in downtown LA vs the dude Butfuk Idaho means nothing.
Hell, my own premium has changed by hundreds just by moving two blocks into a different zone.

Satisfying curiosity?

Some people just like to know stuff, even if it is of no practical use to them.

kev60625 01-31-2016 03:50 AM

When I purchased my BRZ, I got quoted over $200+ a month for full insurance by several insurances, but stayed with Allstate, who I pay $120 every month to. I have so many discounts thanks to the amazing Allstate worker who wanted to be nice, so it should be 200+ still. I'm 23, never had a ticket or anything, but crashed (my fault) last year

Great post. I'll add that some people just like to say stuff, even if it is of no practical use to anyone!

Discussions about switching insurance companies always make me laugh. "I switched from Company X to Company Y and saved $200!". I'm pretty sure if they had changed from Y to X they'd have saved just as much. Its just a switching bonus to get your business. They all do it.

Many companies offer a discount for the first term and/or do not fully factor in all of your history in the first term. Then when your renewal comes, you see the impact of that stuff and many people are too lazy to make another switch.

Oh I fully understand the desire to know things but just can not wrap my own head around anybody being interested in what somebody else pays for insurance. What could I possibly care what a 20 year old in La pays? Why would that 20 year old care what I pay?
I guess my point actually is more along the line of knowing what somebody pays for curiosity sake is cool and all but don't try to compare that against what you pay.

It will give him/her hope that in so many years (some) things will get better for them ;-)

If they move to the same address, have the same driving record, exact same level of coverage, same training and other discounts and in all other matters are precisely the same as the other person then they can have hope. Otherwise they are just fooling themselves.

^^^This.

When I moved from Tennessee to Louisiana, my insurance doubled. Literally. Then it went up again at the next renewal term. Same cars. Same person. Same driving record. The only thing that changed was that I moved to a state with drive-thru daiquiri bars and the highest claims in the nation.

This is why you can't compare rates with other people. You may live in an area where it's just simply riskier for you to leave your driveway than in another area. The insurance company charges you based on your total risk, not just on you personally and your personal driving record.

Insurance companies do not automatically raise your rates when you get a ticket, because they don't automatically know about them. They have access to the information if they need to reassess your risk, but it doesn't feed automatically to your account.

I just canceled my AAA policy back in November. Their rates were quite good, and I was with them for about five years, but their service was absolutely atrocious. Every time we added a car or removed a car, they screwed up the paperwork. Despite my repeated corrections, they continued to list our classic '88 560sl which gets driven five months a year for a total of maybe 3000 miles as our daily commuter. They had a deer accident (comp/no fault w/ police report to prove it) my wife had listed as an "at fault" accident for ME, with six points listed on my license.. I was home sleeping at the time!. I haven't had a traffic violation of any kind in over 20 years. Ridiculous. The icing on the cake; we pay our insurance in full yearly, and were paid up until May 2016. It took three months and many increasingly angry calls and emails to get back the $800 for the unused portion of our policy. They sub-contract their insurance out to ACA, which has one of the worst customer satisfaction ratings around, and I experienced that first hand. We moved our five vehicles over to Liberty Mutual which was rated very highly, and their rates were competitive w/ AAA.

One more AAA rant... we broke down a few months ago and called AAA (we've been premier members for many years; I drive a lot of old cars). The nice folks there took our info and said they'd send a tow out for us. I know that can take a while.. I'm patient and appreciate the help. Well, 45 minutes later they called back and said that the ONE guy in the area was busy and couldn't come. She was going to call around and get back to me. She never did. After another hour, I called in a favor and had a mechanic friend come out and we managed to cob things together enough to limp it to his shop a few miles away relatively safely. About six hours later, AAA called my house to see if we were satisfied with their roadside service!!! Unbelievable.

In all fairness, that's the only negative experience I've had w/ their roadside service. Everyone's allowed one strike. We're still members. I will NOT use their insurance again, ever.

Just sayin'...

Barry

Approx. 978/6 months for me. Have almost everything maxed out. Going to go lower stuff later in a week or two. Also, have a 2000 Frontier with my plan.

FR-S approx. $90/month (it's in CA, that's why its high before you ask). 26yrs old, driving for 10 years no issues. Clean license.

Frontier approx. $65/month.

I'm on Progressive. If I got married it'd drop up to $15/month.

TofuJoe 02-01-2016 01:21 PM

@MuseChaser - I had a great experience with AAA. I got a multi-policy discount for also having homeowner's with them. They even sent me a refund check for the current policy term.

My experience with Geico customer service was also quite good -- I had a minor claim and everything went smoothly.

AAA for me is basically way better, to the point of being absurd.

Your local office makes a big difference in terms of what type of service you get, because each region operates independently.

MuseChaser 02-01-2016 02:31 PM

Alex and Joe..

Glad you had a good experience, and point taken regarding regional differences. We were w/ Nationwide for almost 20 years, and they provided absolutely STELLAR service and I can't think of a single mistake they ever made on our policies (auto and homeowners). The few claims we had in that time were handled cheerfully, kindly, accurately, and swiftly. When we relocated, we stayed with them. On a whim, after a few years in our new location, I got a couple other quotes when our Nationwide agent retired. To my surprise, the quotes we got were literally HALF what we were paying Nationwide, for the same coverage limits. Sooo.. we switched to AAA. The agent was great.. until the sale was made and they had our policy. Ever since, she was difficult to get hold of, didn't return emails, rarely returned phone calls, constantly made errors in our coverage, the two claims (one homeowner, one aforementioned deer incident) were both a nightmare w/ incorrectly issued checks, depreciation recovery not paid even though the paperwork was filed in the case of homeowners.. just awful. Yes, we got a discount for having homeowners and auto with them. Yes, their rates were very good. Yes, we got what we paid for... and less. Soooo.. for us.. Liberty Mutual. According to the NYS DMV, they have the highest customer service rating in the state. Good enough for me.

If you don't need to make changes or a claim, AAA does have excellent rates if all you care about is satisfying your state's minimum insurance laws. If you don't live where I do, then, as you say, AAA may very well be an excellent choice. OR.. maybe I just have a big ol' sign on my back that says "Get THIS guy!'... could be.

That's for sure! I traded my beloved Protege after 12 years of driving turned it into a beater. Now I have my beloved nearly new BRZ (oh, and suddenly a speeding ticket. And, oh yes, the wreck). How could I be such an idiot? My six-month insurance premium: beater = $486. Loud, sexy new (repaired) sports car = $1335. I will have paid the whole repair bill out of my own pocket in three years. They're so good to me. At least I have insurance at all.

ajcarson11 02-02-2016 08:32 PM

Crazy. Full coverage on my 2013 BRZ is running around $530 a year, or $44 a month. 25 years old... no tickets, no points, no accidents.

Legionsk88 02-02-2016 09:46 PM

27. No tickets, CA, 103 for full coverage.

iamsatan 02-03-2016 12:44 AM

I have Geico, my monthly went up like $20 a month, I pay about $160 a month now.

edigeek 02-03-2016 05:50 PM

Geico, $163/month for the BRZ. Multi-car discount applied
