I just canceled my AAA policy back in November. Their rates were quite good, and I was with them for about five years, but their service was absolutely atrocious. Every time we added a car or removed a car, they screwed up the paperwork. Despite my repeated corrections, they continued to list our classic '88 560sl which gets driven five months a year for a total of maybe 3000 miles as our daily commuter. They had a deer accident (comp/no fault w/ police report to prove it) my wife had listed as an "at fault" accident for ME, with six points listed on my license.. I was home sleeping at the time!. I haven't had a traffic violation of any kind in over 20 years. Ridiculous. The icing on the cake; we pay our insurance in full yearly, and were paid up until May 2016. It took three months and many increasingly angry calls and emails to get back the $800 for the unused portion of our policy. They sub-contract their insurance out to ACA, which has one of the worst customer satisfaction ratings around, and I experienced that first hand. We moved our five vehicles over to Liberty Mutual which was rated very highly, and their rates were competitive w/ AAA.

One more AAA rant... we broke down a few months ago and called AAA (we've been premier members for many years; I drive a lot of old cars). The nice folks there took our info and said they'd send a tow out for us. I know that can take a while.. I'm patient and appreciate the help. Well, 45 minutes later they called back and said that the ONE guy in the area was busy and couldn't come. She was going to call around and get back to me. She never did. After another hour, I called in a favor and had a mechanic friend come out and we managed to cob things together enough to limp it to his shop a few miles away relatively safely. About six hours later, AAA called my house to see if we were satisfied with their roadside service!!! Unbelievable.

In all fairness, that's the only negative experience I've had w/ their roadside service. Everyone's allowed one strike. We're still members. I will NOT use their insurance again, ever.

Just sayin'...

I agree. AAA prices are the lowest but their service is 2nd rate.

Also, AAA roadside assistance can be spotty. When I had a Maxima, I couldn't start my car. The AAA tech I think was mad he had to drive to the 'hood (I used to live in a bad neighborhood). For some reason he beat the crap out of my alternator..... then he towed my car to Pepboys to get it fixed. When Pepboys looked at the car, they said it looks like my alternator was mashed really bad. I should have made more of an issue with AAA about it but I had enough stress in my life then and just wanted my car back on the road.

Thanks for the reply. Are you sure it was the alternator he smashed, and not the starter? I'm not sure why smacking the alternator would help get a car started, but giving the starter or solenoid a few good raps can sometimes free a stuck solenoid or starter with corroded windings or worn brushes; that's a common tactic in a pinch. Anyone else have any theories as to why anyone would smash an alternator?

My monthly went up near enough to 60 dollars (US) a month as not to matter. Of course I have good driver, multicar, and another discount that I can't remember. I'm paying right around 163 for full coverage on two cars, a 2016 BRZ and a 2008 Tacoma.

That's pretty similar to what i'm paying. I think i pay roughly $60/month for full coverage. I got some really great quotes on a 911 and a GTR (might pull trigger sometime in the next few years). Both being only 6-10 bucks more a month.

Like @Tcoat said...It's all about the number of factors and one persons area could screw them over even if they are the perfect driver.

I pay 100-110$(Canadian $) per month, full coverage, 250$ deductible, they're aware my car is modded (aside from the supercharger... that they don't know)

Yeah, it was probably the starter.

I just think he was in a bad mood and bitter and took it out on me and my car. I don't feel too good thinking about it now but at the time I wasn't sure what he was doing. I thought maybe something had fallen out of place in the engine and he was jolting it back in. Mainly I was just happy my car was towed by AAA to Pepboys to get fixed. It was my main and only car.... used it to commute to work everyday. Besides the car was old (like 8 years old) and had like 120k miles on it, probably worth around $4-5k at the time. In other words just something to get from point A to point B, wasn't a car I was heavily invested in emotionally or financially.

77.00 /month. 500 deductible cheaper than my Acura RSX S

Hyper4mance2k 02-10-2016 08:02 PM

I saved a bunch of money by switching to Maryland!
33y/o, 1 not at fault accident, 0 tickets, Progressive.
CA $117 per month maxed out coverage on all options $500 ded
MD $84 per month maxed out coverage on all options $500 ded
And I'm unemployed. Once I'm working again it's supposed to go down even more. (they won't give me a good student discount!)

bjreynolds202 02-11-2016 12:34 PM

Age 21, 2013 BRZ limited 6 speed full coverage and a 1996 240sx SE minimal coverage @ 183 per month with Progressive. No at fault accidents, have the multi car discount thats it. Clean driving record.

thomasmryan 02-11-2016 07:23 PM

95/month for 300/100 coverage.

mid fidys old and most of the time the judge lets me slide with court costs. I bought this car to slow down.

Just switched from Erie to Geico...
Erie was about to charge me $91 a month when I switched from an 05 Mazda 3 hatchback ($56) to the BRZ.
Geico quoted me $58 but after I called it's $52 a month.

I'm 42 with a squeaky clean record....
$500 deductible
100/50

ThornhillSubaruOwner 03-15-2016 01:00 PM
