Rear bumper cover painted?

Has anyone had their rear bumper cover painted? The dull plastic black piece on the rear bumper. I don't like the cheap look and is looking to have it painted a gloss black. My other alternative is to get the carbon fiber covers. Thanks.

I haven't done this personally, but there is a SWP BRZ around my area that I see from time to time that had the rear bumper and "mustache" paint-matched; I thought that it looked pretty good (sorry - no picture of it as I don't believe the individual is on the forum).

EDIT - found something similar on the internet - hopefully this picture helps you a bit; I think gloss black might look really nice, so be sure to share a pic if you do have that done!

If colour matched it would probably look pretty good. The one in the pic (to me) looks worse than the stock flat black since it just looks like somebody screwed up the paint.
Not convinced gloss black would look any better than stock unless there were other parts of the car the same to sort of balance things out.
The fact that it is sort of the same gloss as the grill kind of balances it on stock but it does certainly stand out as different when seen from behind.

Yeah, not something I would do personally as I don't mind the finish on the rear bumper - I've seen BRZ with the mustache painted gloss black and that looked good, but I think the texture on the rear bumper might make it look off since it is rather a large piece, but I was just trying to be helpful - up to the OP to decide what they want to do!

OP you might want to consider detailing the rear bumper and adding a trim sealant - I do my whole car about twice a year, and the sealant makes a big difference in how dark and rich all of the black trim looks.

Ya I was just throwing in my 2 cents worth as well.
Could try wrapping it (Would it stick?) and that way if the result doesn't look good there is no damage done like there would be with paint.

Hate the paint matched look. Just doesn't look right to me

Replacing it with carbon fiber cover would look more sexy...

Turbo95eg6 01-28-2016 02:14 AM

Yeah that looks horrid, calling it paint matched would be a disgrace

I've been thinking of doing a glossy carbon vinyl wrap on mine (especially since i dented/scratched it in one area). Shouldn't be hard to DIY. I'd just need to find a friend's driveway and a super long extension cord for a heat gun.

Thats gonna be a pain in the anus to wrap

Some day when I repaint the whole car, I either want to shave down the mustache & rear valence smooth and do it gloss black or carbon fiber.

NyC Zn6 01-28-2016 12:20 PM

Yea when it is painted it looks like shit.

Further proof of looking bad is here. Try and look past the rest of the tack AF mods.
