Tape on Windshield?

Just got my car second hand recently. I noticed there was a white tape stuck on the bottom left side of the windshield, about the size of pinky finger. It isn't actually in the field of vision if you are in the car, you can only see it from the outside.

Anyone have any idea why there would've been a tape there? I'm surprised the last owner just kept it there, it was white and cracking. I peeled it off and it had nothing underneath.

Found that a little odd.

When the cars are shipped there are all sorts of protective cover, labels and other thing taped and stuck to them. If the tape is that old and cracking it is probably just left over from that and the previous owner just never noticed it.

Tcoat is correct they usually do this to identity the vehicle faster and addition protection from the transport process. Or previous owner just forgot to remove it.

Thanks guys for the answers.

Last question I have about my car. I kept reading about bumper sagging where it meets the fender.

How big is the gap between bumper and fender supposed to be? I can see the tabs on both sides if I look at it at the same level as the gap.

it doesn't bother me that much but my curiosity on whether I do or don't have the sagging problem is - OCD as I had a small scratch fixed and panel beater removed bumper to do it.

Well now for the bad news! You sir suffer from premature bumper sag. If still under warranty I would take it in since it can get worse. If not and you decide to fix it there is some info here:

I took my car in for another warranty claim - the rust on window pillars issue.

They ordered the wrong part for it so took the opportunity to ask them to check the gap issue.

Will talk to him after work and see what he says. The gap is really hard to tell unless I take a photo at a certain angle so I felt a bit embarrassed asking about it.

Do you have a photo of how it is meant to sit? I hardly see any 86 here to compare to. Like are you not meant to be able to see the tabs at any angle at all?

Ya, it should be a nice tight line with no tabs visible at all.

Talked to the agent. He said there is no recall or anything for this issue from Toyota New Zealand so they cannot do anything about the gap. Anyone had any luck? I told them it is a known issue but he said theres nothing he can do.

I mentioned seeing the TSB from Subaru but they said it has to be Toyota.

Or somebody pulled it at some point to do an intake or something.

I guess it doesn't actually look like there is a gap to anyone else but me is a consolation.

Here is how it looks:

It isn't that noticeable. I only noticed the clips because I had a scratch repainted on my bumper.

The last owner has scraped the bottom quite badly which could've contributed to it.

Toyota refuses to do anything and my new car warranty is almost over.

So you guys actually can't see any clips at all no matter the angle?

Mines is starting to show signs of bumper sag and it's brand new; never pulled it off. :(

My bumper was doing the same, just remove sidemarker and put a tie-rap in here to bond the two together!

look at the photos on this page to help you. In french but better than nothing
