JDL UEL sounds better with EL e85 tune?

So I've been lurking around and made an account because I installed my Jdl UEL no cat headers this past weekend. When I first installed them I had the OFT stage 2 e85 EL tune flashed and put about 50 miles on the headers with that tune before switching to the stage 2 UEL e85 tune. It's very hard to describe but to me it sounded like it had much more character with the EL tune. It also seemed a little more responsive when rolling on the gas out of first gear and there seemed to be a larger variation in the range of sounds and rumbles from the exhaust. Now with the UEL tune the only way I can describe it is that it sounds much more like it did with the stock header only louder and slightly more boxer sounding. The only other way I can explain it is it now reminds me of a "bro" truck that sounds like the exhaust is either on or off with no variation in tone.

I know this probably sounds stupid but I'm just wondering if there is a good explanation for this. Is there a simple explanation? Or is this more in depth and could involve several different variables in the tunes? I almost want to flash back to the EL tune just for the sound or just get some expert advice on the matter.

Sorry for such a long post but I didn't expect such a drastic change in exhaust note just from switching the tunes so I was slightly disappointed. FWIW other than the JDL UEL Catless headers I am running stock over pipe and front with Greddy evo 3 cat back, greddy momentum air intake, and Perrin pulley.

The EL and UEL tunes have vastly different AVCS tables. That's what affects the sound.

I believe Shiv posted AVCS tables that are specifically dialed in for JDL UEL. Try searching this forum.

Thanks for the reply! I'll look around and try to find it. I'm glad to know it wasn't in my head though.

So I've been reading around in some threads looking for more info and doing a few searches. I have found mention of a VVT update for the JDL UEL. Is this what I am looking for that you mentioned?

As posted by Shiv elsewhere. I've been running these AVCS tables on my JDL UEL with no issues for a year now. I can't speak to their performance over the OTS Stage 2 UEL, but I'm happy enough.

Thanks for the help doc. There's so much content on tuning in the forum its a little daunting sometimes to find what you need.

Edit: also as far as performance I'm not worried about a negligible difference in power as long as it's safe and sounds like something I would enjoy hearing while daily driving.

Does anybody have any graphs comparing the two (uel vs el). Also i plan on going e85 very soon, how much hp is lost (roughly) if you go with a catted header?
