Reset or disable immobiliser?

I've had my battery disconnected from the car for a few weeks while the engine was being rebuilt, but now that we've put the engine and battery back in we've found that the immobiliser seems to have shut everything down.

I've tried both key fobs and same thing - the car won't lock or unlock and won't start. Pressing the start/stop button with or without foot on the clutch does absolutely nothing.

The green "key" light on the dash comes on and flashes to indicate it has detected the presence of the key fob, but there's also a red key with a lock sign on it that flashes as well (presumably a light to tell you the immobiliser has kicked in).

Is my only option to get it towed to Toyota for them to sort this out or is there any way to reset the immobiliser or anything like that?

Thanks
Chris

Double check all your grounds. I had a similar issue in two other vehicles and once we fixed the loose or missing ground, the car fired right up.

Best of luck!

Thanks, one of my friends suggested that too but I thought the fact that the battery had been disconnected for ages and the fact that the red padlock was flashing on the dash meant that it was certainly the immobiliser.

I'll go take a look at the ground connections = I only remember disconnecting 2 when we took the engine out and I'm pretty sure we got them connected back to the chassis but I'll double check

Checked the two ground cables that go to the chassis on the underside of the engine and both are connected and look fine. Car is behaving slightly differently today though - now the lock/unlock buttons on the keyfob actually work. Still won't start though. Connected a charger to the battery and going to leave that overnight then try again tomorrow

Keep us posted. My money is on a fully charged battery getting you up and running again

Never mind, I'm an idiot. There was a combination of things that were causing this, but all were stupid!

1. Start/Stop button wasn't actually connected. We took the button and trim off when installing the hydraulic hand brake, put the trim back in place temporarily and then completely forgot that it was temporary and hadn't reconnected the wires behind it.

2. No fuel in the car. When we took the engine out the next day I noticed a fair bit of fuel dripped out of the fuel lines and all over my drive way. Didn't realise it had absolutely emptied itself though.

3. The beeping when locking the car was because it thought the bonnet was open, even though it was closed. The sensor that detects that started playing up ages ago so disconnected it, but when we put the engine back in someone reconnected it without me realising.

So yeah, sorry for wasting your time!

I have the same issue now but the car was sitting for 6 months during my deployment and now it won't start. All the ground are good, battery is good but the damn car just won't start. Really aggravating

Similar issue after new clutch install

Hi-
I am having a similar issue. I had a new clutch and flywheel installed and the car seemed fine for about 5 days. On the fifth day, I thought I smelled something burning when I got out of my car. I came back a few hours to start it and now have the immobilizer / light staying on issue. I can't depress the brake pedal when I push the start button to actually start up the car.
I have tried resetting the alarm according to the manual, and I have tried both key fobs I own.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rachel

You need to push the clutch in not the brake pedal. Did you check your fuses? Need to find the source of the "buring" smell if one of them is blown.
