Also, now I'm wondering what the +/-% tolerance for octane rating is at the pump. These pumps do get tested after all. |
91 bc CA :( Bought it twice and car had better mpg.
|
Don't forget the residual amount of 87 that is in the hose and related apparatus from the tank to the nozzle from the last person to use the pump. This is bound to lower the average octane a point or two so you're probably not getting what you think anyway :sigh:
At one point I had to use 87 because the next station was far enough away that I wasn't sure I'd make it so got a few gallons. That tank, after being filled completely, averaged nearly 5mpg lower than those around it with no change in driving habits or conditions. Not proof of anything but it was quantifiable. |
Ehh I've filled up about 7 times maybe less and its been mid grade. I know cars especially performance cars recommend high octanes and all that but I guess I got into the habbit of using mid grade from when gas was expensive. I've not gotten in ill affects from it so far. I'm driving it out till it slurps then I'll switch over to 93
Should I drive it till light comes on? Don't like driving my cars to the fuel light On a side note I was on a lotus board on readdit and one guy only runs mid grade up to 120k miles now. |

How does a car "slurp" .. ?? :) I'd suggest you go ahead and fill it up with premium fuel right now and not wait till it slurps or the low fuel light goes on. humfrz |
I have ran 91 and 93 only since I bought the car. No noticeable difference in performance between the two.
|
I use 94 Chevron in Canada.

in about 15 years when this car is shit like 240sx's i will put regular in it just like my 240 bc no fucks given

I use the highest premium available. Either 93 or 91 generally.
|
My last car was an RSX tuned to 94 octane, which in my area was only being offered by Sunoco. After Sunoco merged with Petro Canada, stations carrying 94 Octane become a lot more scarce, which made it a huge pain in the behind. I had to drive about 20 minutes or so to the nearest station with Ultra 94. Good thing the car wasn't a daily driver :D

91. No 93 available.
2 days I ran with 93, it ran like a beast. Mpg bumped up 2. 85 ran for about 2 weeks. |
