Has anyone had a clear bra installed in Portland, or know of a good shop in the area?

I tried asking this back on the 10th, I might of started wrong by asking for paint shop or clear bra place. only real answer I got was guardline, and they are up by seattle. I hope someone else has more ideas for places a lot closer. I don't know if its worth the drive... |
yeah I've found several places that do it here in town, but was hoping someone had some direct experience with them.

Who all have you found? if you don't want to discuss here you can send me a pm.

The only people I have talked to in PDX is is Tommy's http://www.tommyswindowtinting.com/ But I have never had anything done there before.
Guardline has already done a few of our cars, so it is very tempting to take a road trip up there. |
These are the few I've seen get recommendations on other forums for the PDX area.

After talking to a few of them I am going to go with Tommy's. I'll post up some "after" pictures. Hopefully there will not be much to see since it is "clear" paint protection.

503 did a great job on my legacy but it was spendy.

Tommy's did a great job. full nose/bumper, lower hood, full mirrors, door edges, door handle cups and handle, and rear bumper under the trunk. Very nice peeps, first time I've had them do work for me.
Edit --- I forgot to add they also did the front flare out on rear fender |

It was $695 for the package at Tommy's. I am really pleased with the results. It is not really noticeable unless you are close and looking for it. But since this is my DD as well as toy I wanted to get it protected as much as possible. I can live with the faint line on the hood verses the rocks chips that would appear their later if it was not covered. :D
When I talked to Guardline it was $650-ish for their basic package, but I do not think that included the door edges or rear fenders. $950 for their full package with includes a full hood and full front fender wrap which is cool if the 24" cover on the hood bugs you. Don't quote me on the cost, please call them to find out exactly what their packages are and prices. I probably would of gone to Guardline just because they do so much cool stuff, but they were booked out a few weeks and it is a long trip. And I wanted to get it done as soon as possible since we have a couple road trips planned and wanted to get it covered before then. I will most likely have Tommy's do the tinting also when I get ready for that. They do give a package deal if you do it at the same time as the Bra. |
A couple days ago while parked next to a couple other FR-S at Nameless's shop, I noticed that my front emblem was the only one that had a back ground. It is carbon fiber looking. So I decided to look at some pictures of other Hot Lavas, and none of them have this filled in badge. So, I then pulled out some photos of my car right after I got it and it did NOT have this background behind the emblem. So the only think I can think of is that Tommy's did this while it was in getting the clear bra on. They did not mention it, nor did I ask them to do it. I really prefer it to not have a background after looking at the two different photos.
Now I am curious why they did it? Perhaps to hide a mistake on their part? Time to call Tommy's.... >< Time to find out the truth first. |
I called them and made an appointment to have then fix the little bubble on my mirror, and also asked them about the background on the badge. She said they usually charge for that, and wondered if they were suppose to do that for another car, and did it to mine instead by mistake. lol She said they would be happy to take it off if I did not like it, no questions asked. So now I have to decide if I want to keep it or not. It does not really look bad.
I think the funniest part is how long it took me to figure out it was different. I guess I had only had my car for 10 days before I took it in to be done, so .... hahah |
Just got back from getting the mirror repaired. He also worked on gouge I got from a rock on the nose for me, smoothed it out a bit. Saved my paint with that one. ><
Anywise, he said when they were doing the clear bra on the nose he thought it would look good to put the carbon fiber behind the nose emblem since the car already has some carbon fiber accents on the front. So he put it on to see how it looked. He liked it, so they left it, and they just forgot to tell me about it when I picked it up. He offered to take it off if I did not like it, but I decided to leave it that way. He also offered to put on the new badges if I made a swap after I mentioned that I might re-badge it. Over all nice guys, very friendly and I was glad I got to talk to him this time in person. |
