Advice for when the CEL comes on…

Installed P&L EL Headers and no CEL yet but if it does come on should i get a tune then or wait a year or so until i go FI and i'll need a tune regardless? I am considering HKS V3, PTuning, or SBD for FI if it makes a difference.

Running with a CEL won't hurt anything correct? Im not worried about peak gains from the header since boost is on the way…

What do the FT86 experts think is my best route for when that light comes on?:thumb up:

(Mods i placed this thread where i think is best considering it fit in three categories so feel free to move it if needed  )

Since you're going FI soon with a tune anyway I would say just wait, or if it the light comes on and starts to annoy you do the O2 spacer trick and see if that helps. Unless of course there's a state inspection in the near future between going FI and getting a tune, otherwise you'll fail inspection most likely without that tune.

most turbo kits are require their own specific header/manifold, meaning your new headers wont fit with most turbo kits.

generally headers can be used with Superchargers.

if your going with the SBD kit you might consider the openflash tablet for tune as oft does free tunes for the sbd turbo kits and they do tunes included for headers E85 ect on naturally aspirated cars.

the P0420 cel code will disable your cruise control when its active and having cel light on may mask more serious issues.

you can reset cel with battery removal, or an obd scanner.

Or you can try a 02 spacer in second 02 sensor to try to fool ecu that cat is still their

That's another reason I'm not sure about getting one before FI because if I went HKS there flash editor is a far better way to go tuning wise

I would go ECU TEK if I were you. I use it to tune my car, works great and in my opinion its easier to get a good FI tune with it. I am sure OFT works fine too but there much be a reason almost all FI kits come with a ECU Tek tune

Not sure what CEL you are expecting, but for some CELs, the VSC & TC will be disabled.

A tune is always worth doing whether it be before or after F/I i'd recommend EcuTek so you can take advantage of features that racerom provides

What gains can I expect with an exited tune and a full exhaust apart from over pipe?

-Phil 01-20-2016 11:54 AM

A full Exhaust with header you'll see around 15 WHP the main difference is the change in the tq dip

For switching out maps you hold it towards you rather then just blipping it towards you when you want to set it on cruise
