Random bluetooth crashes during calls?

Hey guys,

tl;dr:
My bluetooth crashes randomly during phone calls, but does not ever disconnect, the voices just get stuck intermittently. Music over bluetooth works just fine. Thoughts?

Detailed version:
So I have a weird problem that I can't exactly pinpoint to when it happens or what the pattern is, but the only thing I do see is that it only happens during phone calls. When I connect my phone via bluetooth (I have an LG G4), my music plays from my phone perfectly fine and I never have any issues with it, but as soon as I either make or receive a phone call, I would talk on the phone over bluetooth just fine to start off, but after about a minute or so into the call (sometimes sooner), the bluetooth intermittently crashes and starts "sticking" to the point where both the person on the other line and myself can hear ourselves "buzz" for about a second or two, then it gets quiet for about another 2 seconds, and then the sound tries to come back on again and gets stuck again (I hope you guys know what I mean when I try to describe it). This intermittent sticking happens throughout the rest of the phone call, but never disconnects.

Once I notice the sticking happening, I can transfer my phone call to my phone's speaker (in saying this, you can see that the functions on the head unit still work fine) and talk on it just fine without any issues. After I hang up the phone call, the music comes back on through bluetooth and I can hear it just fine afterwards, but I notice that the head unit is slow in showing the timeline of the music (it refreshes every 2 or so seconds instead of showing it second by second).

I have driven two rental cars recently and I have connected my phone to both via bluetooth and never did I get any issues with the rentals, so I am taking my phone out of the equation for now in terms of the causes of the issue, but I could be wrong.

I know this is kind of a long description of my issue and I apologize for the long paragraphs, but it's a lot of random instances and some things just don't make sense, so I was wondering if any of you have experience this issue or anything similar. Any feedback or input is appreciated since I wasn't able to find anything close to my issue when searching the forums or even Google for that matter.

Thanks!

An addition to the details, I am starting to notice that it mainly happens when I am stopped or driving in city streets. It rarely happens when I am driving on the freeway, but I will confirm this theory in the upcoming weeks.
