Number plate holder

Hey guys with cars,

You able to tell us the size of the holders.
If the holder can be removed
And a close up of the front holder to see how much of the holder is exposed once plate is attached.

Cheers!!!

Nardi330 06-27-2012 06:34 PM

U have standard sized or slimline?

Standard size should cover it with slimline the holder is exposed a little on the bottom.

There are 4 nuts to hold the holder onto the bumper.

With pic, u can check out some of the members whose cars are delivered.

PS. Where's the best place to get number plate covers?

I have gone with PPQ Flexi Plates
291mm x 135mm
No PreDrilled holes.

Hoping someone might have a picture of a car with no plates on it, so i can see how i am going to mount it... If the holder can be removed I might just wip up my own holder.

Surok 06-27-2012 07:34 PM

do we know if the plate holders come pre attached?

i gave instructions for my dealer to not attach the plates or plate holders to my car.
i dont want holes in my brand new front bar...

anyone else order theirs with no front plate? or instructions to not drill or mount anything to the car.

DriftEightSix 06-27-2012 08:02 PM

I asked for.this but they are done when the car is built only USA cars come without the holder.

Surok 06-27-2012 08:07 PM

your shitting me... they dont deliver bloody klugers with plate holders.. but they factory ruin their best sports car...

DriftEightSix 06-27-2012 08:09 PM

Yeah sorry :(.

I double checked with my dealer.

Xauterus 06-27-2012 08:17 PM

I will change mine to standard size then.

Varvs 06-27-2012 09:05 PM

Can I ask why you guys are so critical of 2 holes in the bumper to mount a (mandatory) numberplate? I just dont see why its a big issue.

DriftEightSix 06-27-2012 09:16 PM

Because it looks ugly... and I would like to position the holder myself one that would.be perfect size for my plates.

davey90 06-27-2012 09:26 PM

I'm not sure, just taking a shot in the dark. But judging by Ravine's GTS the front looks removable. i'm sure there is a way... If you are thinking about changing the front lip or whole body kit (say, if you want to put TRD body parts on), hopefully it won't be there on the new lip or body kit. If that made any sense...

the holder is held on by 4 nuts. it looks removable but can't confirm until someone tried.

Surok 06-27-2012 10:21 PM

yeah,, but they dont screw over the USA people..
just have to buy a new front bar from toyota

Nardi330 06-27-2012 10:31 PM

i would say you can just cut the visible portion of the plate holder off.

remove it from the car, affix your plate, cut off the visible portion of the holder.

Nardi330 06-27-2012 10:42 PM

a better way is just ditch the holder and mount the plate directly onto the bumper.

hoping the holes would line up but i doubt it.

I checked, the holes of the holder and the holes of the plates do not line up (at least on mine). But the holder does look like it could be removed.

Would it be illegal to drill new holes in the plates?

In QLD I couldn't see any rule as to needing to a plate holder.

(Current car has it screwed right into the bumper).

Varvs 06-27-2012 11:07 PM

its technically illegal because the plates are property of the state if i recall correctly and if you got a really picky cop, you can get pinged for it.

import owners bending the rear plate to fit into the recess usually get stung by this law (in NSW at least)

moving a screw could be seen as an attempt to obstruct clear visibility of the characters if you got a really evil cop.

mounting it directly on the bumper could cause wear to the paint. maybe back it with some rubber cement or something and let it cure before mounting, or mount it with some rubber washers.

More then likely... Just make a bracket that matches the holes of the previous holder and has holes for where the plate needs to be attached (done for one of my other cars).

Yes bending or deforming the plate is illegal...... mounting a number plate with a screw on a holder which means you screw the plate which has pre drill whole to a holder would be no different to screwing it to a bumper...EDIT: You weren't talking to me... I should keep my mouth shut lolz.

Who said anything about moving screws?EDIT: You weren't talking to me... I should keep my mouth shut lolz.

Good idea. If you screw the plate securely i don't see how it could move any differently whilst mounted to a holder or to the bumper...

someone who makes an elegant solution for sale should be able to make a few bucks i reckon.

Surok 06-27-2012 11:14 PM

if there are holes, ill just get a sticker numberplate made up..

Which state you from?

Can't you have the ones that stick to the inside of the window?

(if from NSW i know they have to have them on the outside of the car)

i know how you feel man, i have a little longer though and i gotta fix this front plate issue

nix 06-28-2012 05:50 AM

Look for existing slimline plate holders from other cars. As long as it has a similar shape you can just redrill holes in it to match where they are on the bumper.

Or you might be able to trim back a stock one with a Dremel.

click_lenny 06-28-2012 11:54 PM

just come back from my dealer, he confirm that they can remove the no.plate holder for me, and drill 2 holes on my slim plate and screw it on the 2 holes on the front bar left by the plate holder as the original plate holder got 2 screw on the front bar n 2 more on the grill....

Surok 06-29-2012 12:38 AM

of course it can be removed. its about not wanting the bloody holes!

So it does seem ok to drill additional holes on the plate? I suppose as long as it doesnt touch the actually numbers/alphabets.

Looks like it's okay if you have alot of money...

davey90 06-29-2012 10:06 AM

I hope the sticker doesn't F up the paint. I was wondering, if you end up sticking a number plate sticker on the lip and then one day you decide to change the lip. Does that mean you have to get a new sticker or do you just simply peel it off and stick it on the new lip?

No idea need to ask WTF/StreetFX as that is his car... and his porche has the sticker as well.

:burnrubber:I went for a test drive today and took a photo of the number plate holder, i also asked a service guy there when he was setting up an 86 for pick up, if its possible to remove the number plate holder to fit the premium plates. he goes its removable, but you'll have to bend the plates a bit which is illegal. whats wrong with the plate holder? "i'm like "its too big" his like " nah, its perfect, i mean, yeah it's made for jap plates, but it's not blocking anything, so you'll be right ;)".
