Guess it won't buff out.

Hi everyone!

A little bit of an update from my accident. Car is going to be totaled out - here's the preliminary estimate, which does not include all the labor. Buddy who is estimating it for me told me the car is roughly 92% totaled or so.

Anyway, glad I'm okay and safe, guy who totaled it is shafting me for any $$$. Was able to save the supercharger and exhaust, still out about $8,000. Went and bought a Hyper.Blue, so I'm not out of the game yet. More to come!

You abandoned the team lava? Mods?! jk
Glad you ok and did the right choice to keep on the same platform

Did you hesitate at all to jump back into to the same car or was there some indecision?

Braces 01-18-2016 10:50 AM

Good for you. At least you could salvage your SC. Curious if anything can be done legally against the driver? Seems like a raw deal.

Love the hyperblue color. Glad everything worked out and u stayed with the twins and jumped to BRZ. Much better interior than FRS.

I did for a bit. Here's some of what I considered. I honestly thought hard about a WRX. I'm a bigger dude and the twin is def. a small car for me. But I've invested $xx,xxx into it. Even if I was to sell what I was able to salvage, I'd still take a huge loss. Plus, fuck 4 doors. :p but for real, there's a huge community behind this platform in the Mid Atlantic area, and I've made so many friends, I almost felt obligated to get another one.

Already pursued this option. Would have to prove gross negligence, which wouldn't be attainable.

I am truly sorry for your loss. And doubly sorry that the driver is not taking any responsibility for his actions, though not particularly surprised.

I've got a co-worker who has a white BRZ and I am fortunate enough to have a bit more funding than he. We took each other for rides in our respective vehicles to point out the differences as a result of my mods and to co-develop upgrade paths. He offered to let me drive his car and I declined the offer after reading your story. I would feel horrible if the worst were to happen and also didn't want to have him drive my car for fear of the same.

My lesson learned: Be careful who you let drive your vehicle, if at all. Better to avoid the whole situation than to let somebody else put your efforts in jeopardy.

That is only the repair amount. My Rav had similar damage (cost wise) and was totaled. State Farm cut me a check for $27,500. That was the value of the Rav4 plus 5% sales tax in WV and other fees. For your 2015 FR-S, you should be getting a check for closer to $22k.

What you should do is go on cars.com and see what they have similar mileage and year FR-Ss listed at. That is the baseline that you should ask for. They should then also supply taxes and fees. State Farm also gave me $100 for my hitch.

Gap insurance should only come into play should the amount you owe on loan be larger than the amount the insurance gives you. That isn't based on the repair amount at all. That is all based on the equity that you had in the car versus what it is worth. If you were upside down before the accident (owed more than worth) gap insurance will cover the difference.

I financed the whole car, 29k by the time I added gap through the dealer. Only made 4 payments on the car thus far, bought it August 1st. Car has 9750 miles on it, '15 FRS base. KBB told me 20k. Car has $16k+ (they stopped writing labor, my buddy's shop did the quote) in damage.

Totaled. Gap covers the rest.
