Starlink and Navigation
2015/2016 owners, since there's no navigation, are there "Apps" to fill that gap in the Starlink system? Or do you just use your phones for navigation?
|
No apps. Starlink is kind of shitty.

Makes me wonder if that's why the car was $300 cheaper for 2016??? I'm OK w/o NAV.
I use the "WAZE" app for NAV and the fuzz anyway. |
I have the nav on my 2015. It's ok but I prefer to use Apple Maps anyway.

The BRZ Navigation on the stock head units were lackluster anyways, we were constantly pulling out the phones out anyways since the stock navigation would get off track at multiple points.
Really wished our navigation system was just as good as the ones on the Mercedes' E-Classes. |
Waze is terrible for navigation, it always sends me on crazy routes and doesn't seem to take traffic into account as well as Google Maps does. That actually does make sense, Waze's traffic reports tend to be a bit more out of date since Google Maps sources directly from phone speed data.
You're not missing much with factory nav, all of them are awful anyway. As a radio, the Starlink system isn't half bad though. I'd just get a nice Pioneer unit and try to swap out dash trim like I did if you're getting a 16. |

yeah the starlink system is less than impressive. it works, but could definitely be improved.
i just use my phone for maps. it would be super awesome if we can add apps onto the head unit though.... on top of that, the stock apps are essentially useless on the head unit. only one i really use is pandora. also i think they took out the text reading function which sucks, although i heard that wasn't that great either. |
