brz - idle is hunting

So my idle was acting squirrelly today. I noticed it stopped at a red light. Would sit at 750 for a few seconds, start to drop, the car would vibrate like it was about to stall (at around 500), then it would bounce up to 900 and slow down to 750. Rinse and repeat. This was happening on the way to my destination (where I spent an hour and a half). Also happened on the way home after the car had warmed back up again.

The engine was warmed up by that point, gas is always 93 octaine (from Shell). Outside temperature was around 50 degrees. Car is at 35.5k miles.

Cheers,

What model year? AT or MT? Is your AC on and/or is the knob set to defrost? Multiple owners have reported these issues when the AC compressor kicks in, although I personally haven't had the problem occur.

If the problem is occurring frequently on an earlier model-year BRZ, you can take it in to the dealer to get an ECU update that resolves the issue.

Used to happen to me on a MY14 BRZ. Believe there is a TSB fix for it if it's MY13 or MY14 up to a certain VIN.

Same situation occurs for me and I have the updated ECU on MY13 and it still happens fairly often, but it's never stalled on me, feels close to it at times tho. I was told it has to do with the DI system cycling between direct and port at idle to burn off carbon build up. I know that carbon build up is a problem for DI only systems so it's not an unreasonable solution.

Thanks, this is indeed an MY13 MT limited. I need to take it into the dealer for the frozen window TSB fix, so I might as well do both at the same time.

Obliged!

Heat was on, not AC. I just replaced my air filter about 2 months ago. Not sure about checking the MAF sensor, I'm not getting any alerts, and not sure what to look for to see if it is borked :)

Obliged! I'll check tomorrow. Snowed today, just enough to keep me from wanting to hang around outside.
