Wheel spacers
Is ok/safe to stack a 5mm and a 3mm spacer in the front? They are pretty thin.
Like if my front wheels don't fit from the struts, can I just put them together? Instead of buying a new set......? |
i was wondering the same

I wouldn't stack them.

The center lip on the hub actually takes some part of the load, too many spacers and it can't take as much load (if you look at the big spacers they have another lip built in) and then you are adding load on the wheel studs in conjunction with reducing the amount of thread the lugs are engaging. It wasn't but a few weeks ago I saw a guy loose a wheel and snap his studs because he was running too much spacer.
Will 3+5 be OK on this car? idk but imo you might be pushing it, 8-10mm is when I start seeing the lip get machined on the spacer. |
I just installed 30mm spacers on my frs. I don't think you'll even notice a difference with 8mm.

Does the wheel still fit on the hub centric lip that sticks out of your hub?
If so, I personally would give it a shot on my own car. I know a few spacer companies that sell multiple size spacers as a kit which are intended for stacking (i.e. powered by max). If you are lug centric at that point (meaning that little lip coming off your hub doesn't make contact with the center of your wheel and all the weight of your car is riding on the 5 lug bolts), then I would have my reservations. But I know a lot of people run their cars lug centric with no problems. You may get some extra vibrations, and you'll want to be more careful when mounting wheels to make sure they are perfectly center. |
3 mm spacer is thickest I'd go with stock studs, anything larger should use extended studs at the very least. I'd look at what 8mm spacers look like. If they have a machined portion for hubcentric location, then I wouldn't stack. Otherwise, it's probably fine.
