My OFT v2 Story.

On July 2,I received an OFT V2 from another member here on the forums. All excited to see it in action,I hooked it up to my car the next day and experienced a quite a bit of frustration and trouble.

I'd watched numerous videos about how to properly install tunes and thought I had it under control, but to no avail,I couldn't get it to work. Here's the error that I would get when I would try put my OEM ECU tune onto the tablet.

https://imgur.com/a/oCxdpsK

Being a person that has a very short fuse when it comes to electronics that don't work as intended,I assumed the worst,in that I had been ripped off.Long story short, the seller, whom had deleted the tunes, and reverted back to his stock tune was very understanding of the issues I was having and tried to assist the best he could.Unbeknownst to him,his VIN is still attached to the tablet.I'm sure it's a totally honest mistake,or more likely, the device has malfunctioned in some sort of way.I tried erasing data(which it already had been) through Openflash Manager, and I kept getting "erase error".https://imgur.com/a/JXzv7JE

I sent a support ticket into Openflash Performance on the 3rd,pretty much knowing that I wouldn't hear back from them until at least Monday, after the holiday weekend. So that's were I was, just waiting for OpenFlash Performance to get back to me to help get the VIN off the tablet so I can use it. THAT WAS ALMOST TWO F'N WEEKS AGO!!!

I haven't heard anything from them other than the robotic response that they received my request. I had also sent a second support request a week after the first one and nothing but robotic response followed by crickets.

I made this post for other buyers and sellers of the OFT V2. Sellers, after reinstalling your stock ECU tune, double check and make sure your VIN isn't still on the tablet. Go to "Information",then the down arrow once and it will have the ECU type,Hardware number,Software number,Calibration code,VIN/SN,and Additional info. I'm assuming if your VIN is still in that screen,it won't work for another car until it's cleared. If anyone can confirm or deny my assumption, please add any information that you can, because I'm solely basing this on why I think mine wouldn't work.

MAJOR props to MaxTurbo who sold me the tablet, and agreed to actually buy it back from me(and pay and extra $20 to cover shippingwhich I happily declined to accept) after the trouble that I've been having.Really a stand up guy for sure, and even with this issue, rest assured, you can buy with confidence from him.

Finally,I don't know what's going on over at Openflash Performance, but I can only describe their support as nothing better than piss f'n poor and I'll have nothing to do with them ever again!I bought the tablet in anticipation of getting headers and a tune, but now I'm just so frustrated with the whole thing that I'm just going to leave it alone for now and save my money. Maybe I'm just slow to the game, but for anyone else that's planning on buying a second hand OFT,just be prepared that if something doesn't go as planned, don't expect any help from them. At least that's my case, and for everyone's sake, let's just hope it was an isolated incident.

You're aren't the only one complaining about their response time as of late. I made the switch to Ecutek because of the fact that there isn't just one company that supports it. There's tons of tuners that'll remote tune for you. Shameless plug here: Counter Space Garage was great to work with.

Are you saying the tablet is garbage or the company is?

Also,I feel like if a company doesn't provide an actual phone number to contact them, that might be a sign to be weary of them.

The table is trash.

Which table? The tablet has many tables encoded within.

Wary. The word is wary.

Of course you could be weary of being wary.

Their response time has always been garbage. They have a playbook to enter a platform fairly early on, make a good tuning solution for half the cost of competitors, and then all but drop the platform 3-4 years later. Before open flash they were Vishnu Performance. Their tunes are technically adequate in my experience, their procede tuner was the best tuning solution available for the N54 until Cobb cracked the ECU. But their response times have always sucked, probably cause they are a very small company and it’s one of the reasons the tunes and devices are cheap.

They did this with the evo crowd, then moved to the BMW N54/55, then the FA20, and then the ND MX-5. Anyone who has dealt with them before the FA20 isn’t surprised.

I'm not defending them but you should have done your research. Many people have had problems with OFT customer service, slow support and response times. I reached out to the owner a few times and he gives a lot of excuses for why his response is slow, from having a new kid, to having eye strain and needing surgery.

I went in knowing the turn-around time for tuning is 1-2 weeks for a review but I had the patience to not put my car under a load and wait, for the price I paid.

Well,I thought I did. I read a lot of posts, and only saw one, maybe two, that said they were slow to respond.Never read about widespread problems with their slow response times. I didn't just buy the tablet on a whim either. I held off a good 1 1/2 months before finally pulling the trigger. Had I known that it would've been this much trouble,I would've never bought it.

I have not found a single article, message board post,or any information regarding the problem that I've experienced. All of the issues that I've read about seem to be fixable by the user, with the exception of needing erase credits.

Again, sorry for the bad experience. I'd suggest to wait a bit more and have more money for a proper EcuTek package with tune revisions... maybe around $900-$1000. But you will have great support and something more optimized for your engine and mods. I'm going through tune revisions with Delicious after installing the Edelbrock SC. Aside from my engine being picky with some knock at low RPM under boost, the experience has been great. Very responsive guys and even reply to my posts on FB out of nowhere.

Also some more details for everyone else. The OFT was unmarried (original tune written to the car) and then proceeded to erase it via the PC software. The last erase took a little longer than usual, but I didn't mine... the PC software is weird anyway. Then it would show a pop up window saying the tablet had never been used! OK, so ready to sell then! But as we found out later on, it appears that the POS did not erase fully and now is stuck there... half erased, but not able to be used for "reading" an ECU. I'll have to just try to get Open Flash to help me (with lots of patience) and worst case send then the tablet so they can refurbish it.

Garbage product that needs investment. Garbage company that needs to hire more people and take care of customers. Yea I said and I'm not afraid to. I remember I bought mine brand new $500. Got it had to put the tunes on it myself. No big deal but still a pain. Then the weird glitches every now and again. I decided to sell that crap. I even smashed the screen by accident so had to find a screen on digikey. When I opened I realized that even a gameboy SP had better tech in it and was less expensive when it came out (lol).

ECUTEK or bust.
Zack Tucker is phenomenal tuner.

Gameboys sell many millions of copies, reducing price because development is spread over greater volume. The same company also sells the games. OFT is pretty niche product that doesn't sell nearly as many copies.

Lack of hardware support aside, I've been pretty happy with mine for 500 bucks. If you think of it as a hobbyist-grade product then it's fine. If you want something more professional there are more professional solutions.
