5.5 years, 90K miles, and still smilin'...

Standing here during .. ahem... "Happy Hour" at the house.. and gazing upon the ol' '13 FR-S parked up at the top of the sloping driveway facing the street with that ol' "Can we play... huh?... can we... please, oh, please, please please????" look plastered all over it...

Yeah, OK... the engine grenaded after an improperly done recall, but the dealership did the right thing....

Yeah, OK... it ain't a leather interior, and there's no bells-und-vissles (the lack o' bells-und-vissles iss a gutt ting, in my opinion, but the preponderance of plastic is not)

Yeah, OK... overall, it just kind of feels like a cheap car in terms of fit, finish, and...ahem... "amenities"....

But, ya know what? This has been a great, and I mean GREAT car. Still puts a smile on face, handles better than any other car I've ever owned (with the possible exception of a Fiat Spider, but that had so many other problems it hardly qualified as a car), gets great gas mileage, and is just a beautiful looking car.

Best bang for the buck in my life-long stable is still a '93 325i, but that gap is rapidly closing. I DO love this car.

That is all.

u forgot to list TOB goes out prematurely every 50k if u have a MT

DarkPira7e 04-15-2021 06:07 PM

Agreed, it's a "nice" modern car. E36 would win all day if I could trust the window regulators

Aren't these cars great! 6.5 yrs, still love it.
95k km & still waiting on the TOB, should be soon.

Yeah, OK... I had to replace the nyla-plastic clips in mine... but the regulator motors themselves held fine for 250K miles until the central NYS salt ate the car... :(..

My wheel wells were pretty soggy, a football sized hole under the driver's seat is when mine finally had to go. 280k or so, I feel your pain. I bought a mint condition 318i with like 90k miles on it that came with 5spd and an LSD, but it just wasn't enticing like the 325. I sold it to buy the FR-S and couldn't have been happier.

Mine hasn't,and I'm well over 70k miles.

Mechanically,my car has been rock solid and the most reliable car I've ever owned.

Have you had any major issues with the car besides the WW2 grenade?

Good for u. Unfortunately, my FRS was the least reliable car I had ever owned by far. Pretty much will never buy another Subaru product ever again

I have friends with wrxs and stis and same shit. Rod knock on the sti (good ol' EJ), and even the wrx had issues.. I have been on multiple forums since the late 90s and never have I been on one where I have seen so many threads regarding motor failures.

soundman98 04-17-2021 12:38 PM

And how many of those problem cars were modified?

Sorry to hear about your experience DarksideFRS. You're most definitely right about the TOB; however, I think Toyota is also to blame for never addressing the issue even in 2015 (my car still had the bad TOB).

For everybody else, as far as reliability is concerned, I'm still rocking the original motor in the now nearly 6 years I've owned it, with 60,000+ miles. It's seen redline countless times in those past years and has been solid throughout, and I trust it enough to put on a CARB JRSC in the future to address the lack of power. I still have yet to replace the spark plugs, but surprisingly enough, the car hasn't misfired on me so far, and if Dadhawk's car is anything to go off of, I may not need to until just a bit after 100,000 miles.

If anything, my complaints about the car are how many vapenation fuckbois own the same car as I do and the amount of cringe Youtube channels that the same people tend to start about their car.

Sti was a stage 2 with all the correct supporting mods and a proper dyno tune (none of that Cobb Accessport crap). Well maintained as well.

But what's your point? That these cars cannot be modified when 80% of them are? U don't see honda and evo owners complaining abt their motors self-distructing from mods.
