Changing reverse lockout

Do anyone know how to take out the reverse lockout, which is the thing under the shift knob that lets you get into reverse gear?
I tried to twist, pull or push but it just won't come out :(

i thought there is a small locking allen key bolt in there.

Yup, small little screw/pin type thing that is a supposed PITA to get out. My friend changed his to a Raceseng one and needed a little hammer and a pin to hammer out the pin that's holding in the reverse lockout. Planning on doing this myself soon, but I haven't looked into the specifics of how just yet.
Pretty sure there was a "how-to" thread around here somewhere a while back.

I saw a tiny hole there, so maybe that's where the pin should go...
I actually want to replace it with a Raceseng one too.
Maybe I should search the "how-to" since it seems it's a hard job :(

I used a 3/32 punch key and a hammer to get mine out, it takes a good amount of force to get it loose. Be sure to leave it in reverse when you're punching it out so you dont need to pull up the lockout to align the new pin.

Here's the instructions raceseng gave me with the lockout

Well, I tried installing my raceseng lockout (which looks amazing) but can't get the pin out. I tried a hammer and 3/32" punch but it wouldn't budge after the pin came out about 3/8" and then the punch snapped off inside the hole. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Just finished swapping the OEM shift knob and R lockout to the Raceseng one's. They do look nice (I mean really nice for both look and touch) but it just doesn't worth the work and the time needed to change them. After I finished I actually think that the R lockout might be better with another color, but I just don't want to undo and redo everything again. So that's it. Moral of the story: Unless you really love DIY or you are an expert (at least experienced ), pay someone to help you out, or stick with the OEM.

Why are people having trouble with this mod ? It looks pretty straight forward to me. Maybe someone can post some pointers to help those having trouble

Tip: Hold shifter firmly to avoid movement and hit it harder with hammer and punch pin. That pin is a bitch to get out!

Tip: Put it in reverse before punching the pin out, or the screw hole will drop down and it's a pain in the ass to pull it back up.

I installed two of these this past week, the first on my brz and the second on my friends frs. With mine set in reverse after punching out the pin, the hole in the actual reverse lockout did not center, it was cockeyed to the left. When I removed the pin from the frs it was dead center which made it a whole lot easier to put the pin back in. :iono:

Get the right size punch and have at it with the hammer. You will have to use quite a bit of force with the hammer. Not much else to it, a few good hits and it should pop out from the other side, then just grab it with a set of pliers

It's really not that hard with the right tools. Finding the right sized punch was a bit tricky in all honesty, but once you have everything laid out (Perrin's guide is pretty good too), and putting it into reverse, it's a breeze. I've taken mine on and off a couple times haha, only took about a minute or so.
