86CUP is the premier independently organized FRS/BRZ Time Trial series in North America. Utilizing a ruleset that is specific to the platforms, the 86CUP aims to provide a friendly, safe environment in which 86 enthusiasts can hone their driving skills. Come join us at our events, get a ride, and experience the true capabilities of our platform in its native environment!

NCRC will host our 86Cup for the consecutive season! They created a calculator on their Chrono Series website to simplify 86Cup registration and signup. After selecting your mods, your total mod points will put you into a Class. Use this Class while registering for a Chrono (86Cup) event.

WEIGHING

Rules
Each class has a minimum weight: at any point during the day, a competitor with driver inside must meet that minimum weight. If and when a competitor is found to be below minimum weight, he will be penalized 1 second for every 25 pounds he is under the minimum weight. If this is the competitor’s first violation, the first 25 pounds will be allowed as leeway (for possible scale-to-scale variation), but he will be penalized for any further discrepancy. Also, if this is the first violation, he may choose to forfeit all laptimes he has accrued until the weighing process, add back weight to his car to meet minimum weight, and re-start new timed laps instead of taking a lap-time penalty. Any repeat violations will automatically incur the lap time plenty as outlined above.

Weighing Protocol
One competitor from each group (Street and Modified) may be selected at random to be weighed at any time during the day. The probability of being weighed is directly proportional to the number of points he has accrued throughout the season (for example, this is equivalent to adding one’s name in a hat once for every point he scores, then drawing from that hat at random). That means top drivers have the highest likelihood of being weighed, and drivers who have yet to score points will never be weighed.

Weighing Logistics
Two drivers from each class may volunteer or will be randomly selected to participate in the weighing process. Only drivers from a different class may weigh one class (to create impartiality). For example, if a Stock class participant is being weighed, only the two drivers from Street and two drivers from Modified may assist in the weighing process. All who participate in the S2KC implicitly agree to help with the weighing process if called upon, barring any extenuating circumstances.

PROTEST PROTOCOL
A competitor may also be spot-weighed if two peers (or at least half of the participants of that day, whichever is less) from the same class believe the competitor to be in violation of minimum weight. That competitor will be liable to be weighed on the spot. In addition, if a competitor suspects another is underrepresenting his points, he may bring his concern to a member of the 86CUP board immediately, so that a board member can audit the car at that point, and compare the setup to that declared on the signup sheet. If a participant fails the audit, he can choose to: 1) correct the violation and forfeit all a previous laps and redo timed laps for any remaining sessions; or 2) take a 1 second penalty for every 0.25 points he is over the limit.

Prizes - TBD
Year-end prize winners need to have participated in atleast 6 events. One raffle entry will be issued to every FRS/BRZ owner who attends the season finale, even if they do not participate in any 86CUP events.

The best 8 finishes of the 12 events will count toward the championship for each class. In the event of a tie, the participant with more 1st place finishes will be awarded the championship. In the event of a tie after the first tie-breaker parameter, the participant with more attendance will be awarded the championship. If there is still a tie after the second tie-breaker parameter, the participant with the faster time at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca event will be awarded the win.

Points - TBD
1st - 10 points
2nd - 7 points
3rd - 5 points
4th - 4 points
5th - 3 points
6th - 2 points
7th+ -1 point

This is going to be a good year! I predict much higher participation as more people graduate from Solo group.

Thanks for putting this all together, @MyRx! I'm sure a lot of work happens behind the scenes for this to happen. ;) Looking forward to an awesome 2015 season!

It's fun work haha. Doing a little admin work and a whole lot of grinding teeth lol

Which reminds me, YES, 86CUP IS FREE TO ATTEND AS A SPECTATOR. We encourage it! Norcal tracks do not charge (at least when NCRC is there) to enter and spectate. Just print, sign your name, and declare "spectator" at the gate. Great oppurtunity to meet and greet some skilled drivers from our community. Opportunities typically not found anywhere else.

FWIW, May weekend at Laguna Seca will be our first major weekend joined with Socal and their slew of other "carporn" expected to attend. Come see and talk to these owners and drivers! Bring a helmet if you've got it, something to contain your smiles and excitement :confused0068::eyebulge:

Edit: If you don't have a helmet and would like your own, hit up LPI in Livermore and tell them 86drive sent you.

Round 1 and 2 will be this month! MARCH 21 and 22 at Thunderhill.

86Cup will gather in the circled area pictured below. Any 86Cup participants that have reserved an awning, you will be move near the end of the awning circled - you will not lose your awning, you'll just be move closer to this opened area. Any other FRS/BRZ are encouraged and welcomed to park in this area as well. If you have a friend not in a FRS/BRZ, they are welcomed to park here too, we just want to centralize/focus on FRS/BRZ owners and participants.

Last week to prep for this wknd! Weather at Thill is looking nice in the 70s.

If you get inside Thill before me, park in the red circle pictured. If you don't have a personal timer (ie AimSolo), check out a Tx for the 86Cup.

@CSG Mike will be at Thill this wknd as well! If you're tracking on Saturday, he's available for lessons. If you haven't had a lesson with him, you haven't really experienced what our cars can do.

Last but not least, Cusco-Winmax is sponsoring our series!! Cusco-Winmax has extended their generosity to anyone attending an 86Cup event. All I will need is your name/contact info for your future use. You don't have to be participating in the 86Cup nor driving on the track, however your car has to be there. So yes, spectators are welcome!

CSG Mike 03-16-2015 03:39 AM

I will be there both Saturday and Sunday. I am partially booked for Sunday, but if your needs can fit into my schedule, I will make it work!

I'll be doing the driving school on Saturday. It would be cool if I could get some pointers/tips.

Sadly I doubt I will be there this weekend, don't feel like renting a U-Haul again. I don't think I am going to do any more days until I get my own trailer. Maybe next month though.
