SUBARU BRZ FIRE

[SIZE="4"]]I am the owner of the BRZ that caught fire while John Visconti was test driving my car. Don at Accelerated Performance did the install, and John tuned it. My experience with both companies has been a bad one. I was hours away from getting my car back. John called me and said “you are about to have a very bad day. We had an accident…we’re talking worst case scenario type accident. I need you to meet me at the shop ASAP.”

I soon learned my car was totaled. This experience has been a total nightmare for me. I want to forget about this and move on with my life. AS of today 8/14, the results of the fire are still under investigation! Subaru now has my car and is looking at it very closely. My advice to anyone working with John Visconti, don’t do it. John Visconti has been dishonest to all of us. He has denied ANY responsibility for what happened because he did not install any parts on my car! It is my personal opinion that he doesn’t care about the safety of anyone using his products, only the sale. Visconti is a bad vendor and should be banned from this forum! As for me, I will not be replacing my BRZ, and John…you ruined much more than my day.

I knew this would happen eventually,
I'm sorry for your loss.

I wish I thought this would awaken enough people to the truth about these sacred vendors, but I doubt it will.

sorry man

For those of you wondering, here is the thread about the fire and the presumed flex fuel fittings in Visconti's kit on the OP's car that may have failed and started the fire: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44024

Also quoting one of his customers from the aforementioned thread since it's relevant:

I can safely say the Visconti FF kit definitely has several issues - both safety and $$$ wise. See links below:

Visconti FF kit thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...=35787&page=21 (relevant discussion begins on page 21)

My vendor feedback thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43656

Burning car is no joke and it pisses me off that John/Rich can brush off everyone's concerns so easily while bleeding us bit by bit. If you're looking for a FF kit (or even tuning), look elsewhere.

Sorry for your loss, OP. This makes two (known) engines that Visconti has destroyed while tuning, the first being one of the Innovate SC test cars.

Thanks for sharing your story and this is so sad. Visconti has the nerve 8 DAYS AGO to say this:

I'm sick at my stomach to see those pics man ... so sorry ...

Foobar 08-14-2013 04:10 PM

Sorry that you had to go through this. I can't even imagine what I would do if I left my car with someone and they called me up to tell me it was gone.

From your post on the BRZ forum, it sounds like the insurance company was willing to pay out $26K. Was this Visconti's insurance company or yours?

Gary in NJ 08-14-2013 04:10 PM

brzturbo,

Sorry to hear about and see the results of modifications gone bad. As your experience shows, the owner of a car takes more risk then simply the warranty when modifying a car. You are fortunate that you weren't driving with a passenger when this happened, or that the car didn't burst into flames in your garage while you and your family were sleeping.

A word of advice; make your last post just that, your last post...until all is worked out with Subaru and your insurance company. I'm sure there will be some type of subrogation and any information you provide this forum is discoverable as public domain.
