Sad Day. Goodbye, my love
Yup, today was that day. I've been talking about being "responsible" for awhile and decided it was about time to practice what I preach. I think payments are crazy on a fun car (just my personal opinion, not trying to start an arguement ;)), so today I traded her in.
"Traded her in?" you ask. Yup. The wife and I have been talking about getting an outback for about 6 - 8 months as we plan to start a family soon, but we were a little flipped on the FRS. Only reason we wouldn't trade in the civic is we have no desire for a second car payment, and as all of you know, civics last FOREVER with no oil, no wheels, and no coolant :bonk: I was driving by the subaru dealer today and noticed a leftover '14 outback on the lot in white (my favorite color for a car hands down), and I stopped to take a look. Sales guy came out and we talked for a bit. Guy was freakin' HUGE!!! I'm talking 6'5" Come to find out he recently traded in his 450 AWD STI for a similar "family" or "responsibility" venture and got the Subaru Crosstreck. I asked him if he was willing to run some numbers knowing that I would probably walk away because we were upsidedown on the scion. He said, "Sure!" He walk out of the room for a couple minutes and told me he would give me $21k for the FRS. :eyebulge: DONE! That was probably more than I could get for the car off this forum. 3 hours later, the keys to the FRS were handed over and I surprised the wife with HER new car. She is very happy, and it is well deserved! I am the proud owner of her 07 civic for the time being. I did let her know that I wanted my Aston Martin within the next 10 years. She said, "You got it!" Anyway, here she is! The wife's new DD. 2014 Subaru Outback with 95 miles on it. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psnjheoob1.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psopt9vgzw.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psiog2jsk8.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps7zlf9u4e.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...psu4lcyz4f.jpg This thing is HUGE compared to the FRS (duh) And the last time I saw my little girl http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...ps1i7kiujt.jpg |
It's not a complete loss at least, you just got a bigger boxer engine

Hey man sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Keeping the wife happy is potentially better for you in the long run anyway hahah. Shame you kept the tails on the car. I have been looking for a good used set for a bit.

Wow, I would not hesitate to get that outback either, that is a very beautiful machine you just picked up there. Congrats!

Sometimes I feel like I should've gotten a bigger car, but I don't plan on kids soon and right now it's just me and my gf. I'm hoping that when the time comes for a bigger vehicle either my gf will upgrade her car or I'll have my BRZ paid off. I definitely would not want to give my baby up though. Good for you for being able to make the logical decision for your needs. I had an Outback as a loaner car for a week and I really enjoyed having so much damn room! It's a very nice and comfortable vehicle. Good choice

Question, how is buying another brand new car on finance comes under practicing what you preach?

Why no part out? Trading in those mods is just throwing $ away.

It has a different intended use (granted, varies person to person) but it's easy to see how it can be a financially responsible decision combined with knowing your personal tendencies. Additionally, he traded in the FR-S to get the outback instead of grabbing 2 payments and ditching the civic instead. Congrats OP! |
congrats! our 2013 outback is the family car and the BRZ is my DD. when when shopping for a replacement for the 280Z, the BRZ met two requirements: auto (so my wife can drive it in an emergency) and back seat for kid seat, so i was good to go as far as practicality went. one of the reasons i went with the BRZ instead of the FRS was because i was happy with the experience i had buying the outback, and also subaru's customer service.
1st on your list should be the weathertech floor mats for your outback. |
