Unusual Sound
Hey guys,
So last night as I was leaving a friend’s house and went to startup my car. Went to turn it on and the car hesitated for a very quick second but started up as normal. Sitting in the cabin I heard this unusual sound and went to examine the engine. It sounded like a very light grinding noise. I looked around and at first it sounded like it coming from the alternator but I couldn’t really distinguish if it was coming from that or the block itself. I drove home cautiously and the sound went away. Fast forward to this morning, the sound came back and did the same thing when I got to work. I’m going to take it to Toyota as soon as I have the time but was wondering if you guys have any suggestions of what it is? It may also help that my car is one of the victims of the recall. Toyota replaced my short block back in March and I have about 13k miles on it. Thanks! Bearing on something up front has let go. Don't drive it anywhere but the shop and even then, only if it's close. Keep the revs way low.

Agree. Sounds like a bearing on an idler pulley.
