In for the long haul Ultimate NA build thread.

Hi all,
I do not really post much but I will give a quick intro/rundown on me and my plans.
I have been building Honda's Subaru's and other misc cars for over 20 years. Yeah I am that old guy. I bought my 2013 BRZ in June 2012 and just rolled 22k miles.

History,
I am a NA fanatic. I have built every type of engine out there, Turbo, Supercharged, Nitrous, and Naturally Aspirated.

My other car that sits most of the time is a 258 WHP Civic 2.1ltr B series if you care or know what that is.

My plans for the BRZ include a build of monstrous proportions. Partly because it is unexplored territory. No one really makes all the parts ... yet. I have a line on many up and coming parts you will see in November at SEMA but have been discussing in the background with companies in the US for a few months.

Most of the parts of my build will be prototypes or one of a kind custom parts but I hope you follow my build page.
If I do not update it here:

I just picked up a short block so let the fun begin. Nothing will be original dimensions in the engine BTW! Some of the info I can not divulge as is it currently secret on who is making what like valve train parts but it is coming!

Figured I would edit the Mods list to current status of the project.

After inspecting the Cylinders on the FA20 it appears that it has a nikasil plated bore on solid aluminum cylinders... No inner steel. But that is fine I have a fix for that.

Edit applied a Magnet to the cylinder and it stuck so must be steel there. very difficult to see with the naked eye on a oily block

But what if I have top secret security clearance?

I want to do an NA build set up too mainly cuz the car drives like a dream and throwing on boost will make lots of power but for me I feel it personally upsets this delicate balance of power and handling. At least for NA the power increase will be gradual as to not change the car's characteristics too much but still allow for a fun and more responsive ride that you can expect out of NA builds.

Superchargers do have a more responsive feel that is similar to NA but I feel the torque is increased too much per say but thats just imho.

I'd be happy with 200-250whp if possible with an NA build will be costly but anything for this car is already costly lol

lol @raven1231 .... TS/SCI? you may have the clearance but do you have the need to know?

Awesome! I'd love to come check it out this summer. I'm in Macedonia so I'm not far from you.

Want to do a NA build myself! Can't wait to see what you have planned!!!

RehabJeff86 04-21-2014 03:13 AM

Awesome, maybe i can buy a built engine from you after its proven durable!!

I dream to hv a NA FA20 boxer with 275whp/250wtq redline at 9k rpm to satisfy my track needs!!

That you will never see. 275whp is 160wtq at 9k. Proper small displacement NA race engines you will never see huge torque numbers. It's not farm equipment, it's a race car.

I'm excited to see this build myself. Down the road I plan a similar build myself. Just waiting on cams.

My 258 WHP Civic on pump gas had 60k miles on the engine before a stuck thermostat over heated it. It was pretty durable. Same plans with the Subaru. If it is built right it lasts.

There are 300 whp k20's around. There are an astronomical amount of 300 whp k24's around.

They don't make 250 wtq but they do make over 275 whp, generally before 9k rpms though :D

They still make power to 9k rpms though. Definitely more than 275 whp at 9k as well hehe.
