(July 22nd, 2013) This will eventually be incredibly detailed and very picture heavy, probably with a video every now and then. I don't plan to ever sell the car, but if I do, the buyer will appreciate this because I intend to log all maintenance. I think I have a somewhat unique purpose for my car compared to most people. I've only owned one car since 2006, so... naturally... it's my daily driver. Especially since I realized: track riding > street riding, when it comes to sport bikes.

My DD is a 2005 Tiburon.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/pictu...pictureid=6223

It really is a great car for what it is, but when I bought it, I knew 0 about cars. Thanks to it, I actually developed an interest in cars, so over the last seven years it has slowly been transforming from what it was intended to be: an affordable front wheel drive economy coupe with all the bells and whistles, into what I want it to be: a quick and agile sports car. I'm currently driving it all over the country half gutted and dropped on coilovers set to max stiffness. As of late, it's been increasingly apparent that if I don't get a second car, my one and only car is going to be an A/C-less, musicless, one seater that's dancing on the edge of street legality. Kind of a ridiculous thought, considering it's a low powered heavy-as-hell front wheel drive Korean tank.

In May 2013, I came extremely close to buying a black 2008 Lotus Exige from NY with only 5,500 miles on it. I would have loved it like a child, but it would have made me financially strapped for a while. I want nothing more than to move out of the neighborhood I'm currently living in, so that would not have been the best idea. Still not wanting to drive around in MS with no A/C in my only car, I turned my attention to something more practical.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1381305446

It's (supposedly) going to be more of project/garage queen for the first stage of its life under its second owner - me. I want the car to drive like a ninja, but I'm not a track/autocross junkie by any means. The ol' Tiburon is at a state of good handling where I don't get pissed off commuting in it, but now if I want to go on a drive just for the enjoyment of driving, I will have the FR-S. Meaning I can finally leave the Tiburon alone and will be at full liberty to get as completely radical and ridiculous as I want with the FR-S. I might start doing the occasional autocross event, but if I'm going to shell out the cash for a track day, I'd rather do it on two wheels than four. If I can ever get the car to a point where I'm content, which is highly unlikely, I may start tracking it at that point. What do you want to do with your car?

Since it's looking like I may never actually own an Exige, I'm looking forward to the actual labor and investments necessary to turn the FR-S into an Elise - light, nimble, naturally aspirated, and so much fun you just may want to punch yourself in the face. Keeping a new house as the ultimate goal, I'm going to try my best to keep the mileage off the FR-S. That way if shit ever hits the fan, I can sell it with as little financial loss as possible.

I think I want to end up with a final power to weight ratio of 1:10.69 (hp:lbs). We'll see how long that lasts haha...

Log

Milestones [mileage]
--- 2012 ---

2012-09-1? - First test drive of an FR-S - a red automatic in GA with 490 miles on the odometer. Not psyched about the transmission, but loved everything else. First time in life to use paddle shifters.

2012-12-11 - Finally found a manual to test drive.

2012-12-13 - Two days after the highly anticipated manual test drive, this BRZ parks right next to me.

2012-12-17 - Original onwer received car (starts on post #36). Car had 9 miles on it.

--- 2013 ---

2013-07-22 - Bored at work, all jacked up on caffeine, got real psyched and made this thread.

2013-07-22 - Bank approved loan.

2013-07-25 - Entered group buy for T1R 70RT titanium exhaust

2013-07-27 - Signed paperwork and the bank put the check in the mail to the seller.

2013-08-05 - Shipping company picked up the car in Utah.

2013-08-08 - Realized there are even lighter exhausts to be had, so backed out of the group buy for T1R 70RT titanium exhaust. What a damn dirty Indian giver.

2013-08-10 [10,763] - Car was delivered. Changed name of thread from "Anthony's Nonexistant FR-S".

2013-08-24 [10,763] - Ordered Raceseng S2 kit.

2013-09-05 [10,763] - Ordered four Nitto NT01 245/45/17 tires.

2013-09-12 [10,763] - Ordered Borla headers, FA20 Club cold air intake, and Raceseng cam plate.

2013-09-29 [10,763] - Ordered Private Label MFG over pipe, Motul 300 75W90 tranny oil (3 liters), and Whiteline positive shift kit.

2013-09-30 [10,763] - Ordered Kartboy short shifter.

2013-10-01 [10,763] - Ordered Composite Worx SP-1 seat.

2013-10-18 [10,763] - Ordered OpenFlash Tablet, SPEC aluminum flywheel, and MTEC shifter springs.

2013-10-23 [10,763] - Ordered Tomei 60R catback and APR GT3 carbon fiber mirrors.

2013-11-14 [10,763] - Ordered Shorai LFX21L6-BS12

2013-11-24 [11,019] - Ordered steering wheel adapter and Perrin rear shifter bushing. Took first pictures of the car (Post #38).

2013-11-25 [11,019] - Ordered Raceseng Apex R shift knob.

2013-11-26 [11,038] - Purchased a scale locally. I'm suspicious of its accuracy since the store I bought it from literally didn't have a selection. It claims to be accurate within 0.2oz/5g but we'll see about that...

2013-11-27 [11,038] - Removed stickers.

2013-11-29 [11,056] - Installed headers, over pipe, and catback.

2013-11-30 [11,106] - Began all work around the engine bay. License plate came in the mail.

2013-12-01 [11,160] - Installed FA20Club cold air intake and Raceseng pulleys. Removed front bumper, wiper fluid reservoir, and what appears to be one of two horns.

2013-12-02 [11,233] - Chopped my faux diffuser off.

2013-12-03 [11,251] - Ordered Whiteline rear control arms.

2013-12-04 [11,255] - Installed APR mirrors. They look awesome. Installed Cusco rear crossmember brace.

2013-12-05 [11,269] - Installed SPEC flyhweel, Kartboy shifter, Whiteline positive shift bushing, Perrin rear shifter bushing, and Motul Gear 300 transmission oil.

2013-12-06 [11,310] - Drove around with new flywheel and shifter stuff. Car is exponentially harder to drive now. Need to adjust shifter some more. Rev matches are still really easy, even with the -16 pounds off the drivetrain between the pulleys and flywheel. Bounced off rev limiter for the first time. Oh muh goodness.

2013-12-07 [11,310] - Installed Composite Worx SP-1 single skin seat.

2013-12-08 [11,3--] - Went to my first car meet.

2013-12-21 [11,---] - Ordered Tomei front pipe.

2013-12-28 [11,763] - Attended my second car meet and put my 1,000th mile on the car.

--- 2014 ---

2014-01-01 [12,112] - Installed OpenFlash Tablet tune 1.42b, stage 2. Torque curve is so much smoother.

2014-01-02 [12,113] - Installed Tomei titanium front pipe. Claude have mussy, that noise!

2014-02-13 [13,103] - The mythical control arms finally came in!

2014-02-15 [13,205] - Installed Whiteline Control Arms and got an alignment.

2014-02-17 [13,252] - Dropped my Volks off to have my race tires mounted and I painted my headlights and removed the grill in the meantime.

2014-02-22 [13,5--] - Painted my taillights and did my first photo shoot of the car.

2014-03-23 [14,107] - Ordered APR GT-250 67" and Driveshaft Shop carbon fiber driveshaft.

2014-04-03 [14,112] - After a bit of entertainment, got my driveshaft installed. No problems. It seems perfectly balanced.

2014-04-09 [14,167] - Reflashed from Stage 2 A00C v1.42b tune to v1.58. Feels way better!

2014-04-11 [14,1xx] - Installed APR GT-250 with help from Bushman7140 and userjack6880.

2014-04-12 [14,xxx] - Changed the oil.

2014-04-13 [14,xxx] - Particpated in my first autocross event. Here are the results.

2014-04-13 [14,768] - Put my 3,000th mile on the car and installed my Lotus steering wheel.

2014-08-23 [15,232] - Stripped out the threads on my front wheel studs. Damn it.

2014-08-27 [15,232] - Ordered 2 sets of ARP extended wheel studs, only for the front since those were the only ones I stripped out, and a full set of Blox lug nuts.

2014-09-03 [15,232] - Put my stock crank pulley back on, based on information from this thread. Very sad.

2014-09-25 [15,232] - Installed ARP wheel studs and Blox lug nuts.

2014-11-11 [16,107] - Installed Raceseng cam plate, removed DI ECU mount and its counterpart from the other side of the engine, and changed the oil.

2014-11-14 [16,107] - Ordered Whiteline 20mm adjustable front sway bar, Perrin 19mm adjustable rear sway bar, Raceseng Stiff arms, and Raceseng front and rear tow hooks.

2014-11-19 [16,118] - Installed Raceseng Stiff Arms and realized the tow hooks are supposed to screw into the bumpers. So I'll have to come up with an alternative for those.

2014-11-21 [16,118] - Installed Whiteline front end links, Whiteline 20mm adjustable front sway bar, and Perrin 19mm adjustable rear sway bar.

2014-12-13 [16,220] - Participated in my second autocross. Lost traction a bit and made 8th fastest time out of 57. Am pleased. Here are the results.

--- 2015 ---

2015-01-06 [16,471] - Installed Raceseng rear tow hook. Pretty unorthodox, but it's on there.

2015-01-26 [16,471] - Completed my AC delete and my carbon fiber battery bracket. Cranked the car for the first time this year. Fired up, no problem. Still have yet to open my Shorai battery tender.

2015-03-08 [17,246] - I began removing my sound deadening today. So far I've removed 3.56 pounds. I still have all of the vertical pieces left, as well as a few little bits of ones I've gotten most of the way out.

2015-10-01 [18,860] - Ordered a CAE Ultra Shifter.

2015-10-04 [18,893] - Backed into a concrete planter and did some damage.

2015-10-16 [18,913] - Got new set of Nitto NT01's mounted.

2015-10-17 [19,057] - First track day. NOLA Speed & Style, run by Flatout Motorsports.

2015-10-18 [19,100] - Second track day. Ran a 2:05. Put about 222 miles of actual track mileage on the car between the two days. Averaged 8mpg.
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsSqS4G68f0"]Flatout Motorsports Track Day 2 at NOLA Speed & Style 2015 - YouTube[/ame]

2015-10-28 [19,412] - Changed the oil.

2015-11-04 [19,484] - Dropped the car off at Springhill Toyota in Mobile, AL to have the notchy 5th gear issue resolved, ie, free tranny.

2015-11-09 [19,491] - Picked up the car with the new tranny. I'm not totally sure they moved my MTEC over from the old tranny to the new one like I specifically asked them several times, but... you can't look a gift horse in the mouth, and also dealerships are dealerships. Car now has 19,545 miles on it, so the new tranny has ~57 miles on it. I'll be changing the oil to Motul again, ASAP.

--- 2016 ---

2016-01-17 [19,887] - Installed CAE Ultra Shifter.
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfULGBPVVuc"]Review: CAE Ultra Shifter for the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ - YouTube[/ame]

2016-04-30 [20,011] - 20,000 miles!

2016-06-05 [20,016] - Installed Perrin Steering Rack Lockdown kit and G Speed Gas Pedal Relocator.

2016-06-10 [20,016] - Installed AP Sprint Kit, Cusco Strengthened Engine Mounts, and Radium Brake Master Cylinder Brace.

2016-06-11 [20,016] - I was gone for 3 months and my Shorai battery over-discharged. My bad. Replaced it.

Fun fact: I've currently shed over 7 pounds total worth of things that weigh less than a pound. So to all those people that are constantly questioning the removal/replacement of small bits that don't weigh much, THAT is why. You'll never save that much dumping hundreds of dollars into a carbon fiber hood, and I did it for almost free.

Me too! I still have to wait 4 months before I even get to see the car in person. Fun fact though: the last 4 digits of the guy's phone number that I'm buying it from is your username.

Good luck!

86 is a the Magic Number for this car :party0030:

Anthony 08-24-2013 06:13 AM

I guess I just committed to the crazy-colors color scheme. I hadn't put much thought into it, but my car is white, so when it comes to engine bay and underbody parts colors, by default I'd like for either:

1. Clean, two-color scheme - Everything to match, with a black (factory parts) + gold (aftermarket parts) color scheme, but within tasteful reason.

2. Nice clean OEM look - Everything to match with a low profile/subtle color scheme. ...Which would basically mean only buying black parts to blend in with the factory parts.

3. LOOK AT ALL THE COLORS! - Nothing to match

I just ordered pulleys and... to my own surprise... I chose red. Red! My coilovers are already green, so I guess I'll be taking route #3 for this car. When the time comes, I guess I'll go for like... blue control arms, and so on. I'll keep it clean on the outside, but popping the hood or putting the car on a lift will reveal a blatantly modified car.

Yep, I feel quite content with this idea already.

ZionsWrath 08-24-2013 06:28 AM

Not sure I understand that guys thread, you bought his car from auction? Why was it auctioned? Or you bought his replacement, why did he sell it?

Anyway nice car, will keep an eye on it

Anthony 08-24-2013 06:33 AM

No, he bought a car, then Toyota replaced it because he was having problems or something. It's been a long time since I read it, so I forgot the story, but basically that's what happened.

Then he ended up listing the second one for sale, and I bought it directly from him. If there was an auction involved, it was probably the dealership taking the original faulty car and selling it to someone who put it up for auction. Or maybe the dealership put it up for auction themselves.

Seeing the license plate threads made me realize I should probably start writing down my ideas for potential plates in case I forget. No telling what will be taken by the time the time comes to register my car.
