Impureclient 09-23-2020 08:31 AM

Why and also did you let admins know what happened?

BigTuna 09-23-2020 08:31 AM

If you call someone out, can you at least explain what happened?

Probably a PM scammer. User is banned, claims to be in the US but connecting from Africa.

Sounds like someone didn't read the stickies...

I feel like need to make a thread posting all the scammer email address and everyone using that email signing up random shit. How many member we have, it'll be worse than scammer spamming us lol

Explanation

I was looking for some headers and he got in contact with me. I thought it was a good price that he was offering, so I wanted to make sure I got the deal with him. I did let him know from the get go that I was only wanting to pay half before he sent it and then I would pay the 2nd half when I actually got the headers. He was willing to do it at first, but then he wanted the full amount before he sent it because he felt like I wouldn’t send him the 2nd half of the money. I assured him that I would, and to just convince him I offered to give him a bit more so he could send it. The price of the header was 400, and I gave him 250 through cashapp so he could ship it out to me. He then said that he didn’t want to ship it unless I payed him ALL the money. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable doing that, so I decided I didn’t want the header anymore. I asked for my money back, and he has ghosted me. I’m sorry if I did break protocol for calling out scammers, but I just wanted to notify everyone before he tried to scam anybody else.

Top of each subsection page is where rules and helpful information is. This one linked below in particular would have been a good read. But now you know.

They are throw away addresses. Wouldn't bother them in the slightest.

Though sometimes I want to post a WTB, then put them in touch with a chatbot...

Consider it a $250 worth of lesson - never send money to strangers via CashApp, Zelle, PayPal Friends and Family, etc. Always use a payment service with buyer protection such as PayPal Business.
Had you used PayPal Business your money would have been held by PayPal until the seller shipped the item. If he doesn't ship it, you get a refund. If he shipped a brick (that happens too), open a dispute and 99% you'll get your money back.

soundman98 09-23-2020 11:15 PM

i've never really had a problem doing things through paypal only, many cases, i've even sent the money as a gift.

but each time, there's some sort of pre-existing knowledge/relationship with the person i'm dealing with, and they've built up a positive status within the community that i usually locate the parts through.

the lesson here is buyer beware of rando's with parts. $250 is a lot cheaper than many others pay to learn the same lesson. doesn't suck any less, but $250 is a whole lot better than 2500. $250 s a good weekend. 2500 could get you a nice lemons car
