There's a lot of "expects" and "should" and "almost certainly" in the article so not sure how much more information is there than we already have that isn't guesswork.

Notably the only thing they seem to put forward as fact is the change from 2.0 2.4 engine.

Did they pull the stock engine and throw in a Chevy one? Maybe swap it out for a 30 year old engine?

Is the Supra really a Supra if it has BMW parts, looks completely different, has power, only comes in automatic, and has traction control?

Yes to all of these wonderful questions. If the manufacturer calls it a name it is indeed that name.

dang a 2.4?

i wonder if that will provide for an oem like swap from the 2.0

I’m excited. Curious to learn more about the 6MT gearing. I hope they made 6th gear longer for more relaxed highway travel. The current 6MT cranks about 2,700 rpm at 60 mph verses what, about 2,000 rpm for the automatic?

Also curious about the engine. Max rpm is usually a function of piston speed, which is a function of stroke. Since the 2.4 has the same 86mm stroke as 2.0, I should be just as happy to rev to 7,000 rpm. If it can rev to 7,000 rpm, the 2.4 should easily make at least 240hp. Not sure why they limited it to 217hp. I wonder if a 240hp NA engine in the 86 would encroach too much on Toyota’s $47,000, 255hp 2.0T Supra. Even with 217 hp, the new BRZ/86 should be amazing.
