Let's talk traction on these bastardized 86s!

I've got my 2jz swapped BRZ running and has been for the better part of 2 years now. Having some issues with traction on high boost so i'm wondering if we can't all share some of our knowledge on the matter.

I'm not officially dyno'd but with these 2jz's there's no question on 30psi of boost i'm above 600ft lbs of torque. On a Nitto NT555R 275/40zr17 i'm breaking the tires loose in 5th gear on the freeway.

My suspension is Tein Flex Z (not the most expensive setup, i know) and stiffer diff bushings. I have the suspension set to full soft and the car is lowered as much as possible without obscene amounts of rubbing.

Has anybody been able to get better traction results on the street with a streetable tire? Something that isn't a full slick, and if caught in rain the car wont kill you at 40mph. If I lower the boost to about 20 psi, the car is manageable, but what's the point in that? Just looking for some recommendations from others with similar or even higher power in this chassis. Being so light in the rear is proving to be a challenge indeed.

EDIT: is300 m85 3.73 rear end and running about 20 psi on rear tires.

Thanks! :burnrubber:

What psi you running in the tires?

Maybe raise the rear and lower the front. Weight transfer will happen more readily if the rear int already slammed.

What kind of limited slip differential are you using? What ratio?

You just need better tires

I have been delighted with the AD08 in the rain. I did not expect them to work very well, but they do.

The rear end is already about an inch higher. is300 m85 3.73

What power level? I imagine the ad08 would get shredded way faster than my nt555r

Losing traction in 4th and 5th gears!! Yikes!! [emoji15][emoji33] What transmission do you use?
A 2JZ swapped BRZ/86 sounds like incredible amounts of fun, and scariness. [emoji16][emoji854] Is your engine a GTE from a Supra, or is it a different version?

Also, boost by gear.

I mean, I would hope someone with a 2J swap is smart enough to slow down in the wet!

Clash0901 01-21-2021 06:31 PM

I have boost by gear, thats not the issue, the issue is 3rd, 4th, and 5th lol. And CD009 trans

Isn't that a bit low? I lose traction with my sad 175whp if my pressures are below 30 psi. Tires start chirping in the corners and that's how I know I have a leak usually. Have you experimented with higher pressures? Say 30-32?

The MCA Traction bracket may help a little.
