Precision 6262 Turbo
I am getting a precision 6262 turbo for a turbo kit I am getting built for me. some of the options I can get is a ported s cover. it doesn't cost any extra. I just want to know the advantages and disadvantages of a ported turbo inlet.

The turbo is good for 700hp so depending your hp goal I don't think it'll matter much.

Ported covers will move the surge line of the compressor map farther left, do you need that on your setup? if so then your good to go. Other wise the S Covers are large and bulky. I would assume the non ported option is the E Cover which is smaller, little easier to work around in the engine bay.

It will make power between 4200 and 7000rpm depending on your hot side and kit. It will come on like a freight train from 5500 to 7000rpm. Depending on what your power goals are and type of use the car will be used for their could be better choices....

You don't need "as much power as possible" to make a quick 1/4th 86. You can't just throw parts at it and hope it works. Take 10 steps back and set yourself some power goals before you start blowing money on parts that are just going to hurt your 1/4th times. |
The hot side will be a T3. 83 A/R with 3" V-Band discharge

Precision turbos don't even really get going until 20+ psi. You'll spool it slower, make less boost at a specific RPM level, and overall make less power throughout the powerband where it counts early in the run. Here is a hint. In the 1/4, the race is over before you even hit the 1/8th mark. You need to focus on good 60ft times and keeping your car in the powerband as much as possible before the 1/8th. Going too big of a turbo with too big of an A/R housing size is going to kill your times, even if you may make more peak power than the 86 next to you. Take some time and review the dyno thread, see where these cars actually make power on 55-67mm turbos, and go from there. You're not going to run good times making all your power past 6k RPM. |

From there you'll find most of your time improvement will be in the suspension and fighting for traction w/ a driver mod, and not so much needing to upgrade the turbo / run more power. |

Just so you know my anti lag system is a shot of nitrous to boost my 60' times as soon as my turbo is spooled the nitrous will shut off
